WE WALK BY FAITH AND NOT BY SIGHT
II Corinthians 5:7 says
: “(for we walk by faith, not by sight).”
Taken in context, it is talking about our mortal flesh. Paul writes in verses 5-6
“Now he that hath wrought (prepared) us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. There we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.”
In other words, we have been given the Holy Spirit at conversion. He comes to live within our spirit when we are born again. This is the earnest, or a type of down payment of what is to come.
When you buy a piece of property or a home, most sales require some “earnest money” to be put up front even before the contract is put together. This let’s the seller know that the buyer is “in earnest” about the transaction. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit, as the earnest of our inheritance until we leave our mortal bodies and go to be with Jesus in Heaven. We should never doubt our destination, knowing this. It is not something you can see with the natural eye. It is seen with the eyes of faith.
Everything that a Christian does in their walk is by faith. We are told in Habakkuk 2:4
…”but the just shall live by his faith.”
Again in Romans 1:17:
“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
This verse is quoting the Old Testament scripture. God’s word never changes. It is the same in the Old Testament and New. Everything is done by faith.
When you have to see something to believe it, as many people say, there is no faith in it. It is believing without seeing, and trusting God for the results that brings great faith. It is believing that God will perform his promises even when all circumstances in the natural say that it will not happen. Paul writes to Timothy in II Timothy 4:7
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.”
There is a fight to walk by faith. We fight the flesh that has to see everything and see those things that are not as if they are. How? In II Timothy 3:16-17 we are given the answer. “
(Old and New Testaments)
is given by inspiration
of God, and is profitable for doctrine
, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God
(or woman, or child)
may be perfect
thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
Hebrews 11:6 says:
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Diligent means to go at it with everything you have. To search out the scriptures, to study, and be determined to find the answer.
There is no person that I know of that has strong faith that hasn’t spenT considerable time studying the scriptures.
…” Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God….”
(Romans 10:17) So, to walk by faith and not by sight, you must spend time in the word of God.
Is your faith tank low? Then fill it up with the scriptures. Listen to messages that bring faith into your life. Turn off the things that bring fear, and build yourself up on the things of God. It is work, but it will change your life. I am living proof that it does. It changed mine.
