In everything do to others as you would have them do to you;
for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 7:12
A man who was hurrying to a job interview pushed another man on a crowded subway and cursed at him. The man he pushed ended up being the one who was to conduct the interview. Needless to say, the job seeker didn’t get the job!
Life can be so simple, yet we tend to complicate it. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Why is that so hard to do? It’s our ego. We think that our time is more valuable, our concerns more pressing and our needs more important.
We read in Luke 10:27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” This seems simple to me…Love God and love others. If we truly love others, then we will treat them right, we will speak to them in a loving way, we will treat them as we would like to be treated…Period!
Never mind solving the world’s problems…Start right where you are with your family, in your neighborhood, your school, church or job. Treat others the way you would like to be treated and see what a difference that will make.
Gracious Father, life can be so simple, yet we complicate it. Our problem is that we think of ourselves first. And sometimes we only think of ourselves. If we were to treat others like we want to be treated, our corner of the world would be so much better. Father, help us catch ourselves when we are about to act selfishly. Amen.
