CASTING OUR CARES

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

                                                                                      1 Peter 5:7

My grand dog, Leia loves to play fetch. She will retrieve a toy as many times as you are willing to throw it for her. She would play for hours if she could. Leia also loves to swim. Every year when my daughter and her husband open their pool, Leia is so excited. She wants us to throw her toy into the pool so that she can jump in, retrieve it and bring it back so we can throw it into the pool again. Over and Over and Over!! Something compels her to get that toy and bring it back to the thrower, no matter how tired she gets.

Each year on the first day of swimming, Leia plays so hard that she wears herself out. She gets so tired that the next morning my daughter has to carry her down the stairs. She is so sore that she literally has trouble moving.

Aren’t we a whole lot like Leia when it comes to our worries? We just can’t stop; we won’t let them go. We try to meditate on good thoughts, but we always bring back our worries. We play them over and over in our minds. We map out plans about how to fix them. We talk about them with friends. We wear ourselves out with them until we make ourselves dog-tired.

Our Heavenly Father invites us to cast our anxiety on Him. He catches any worries life throws our way. He is the One with the power to heal our worried minds. He has the strength and the resources to meet our every need, answer our every prayer, and build hope in our hearts.

We need not worry! Unlike Leia and me, our God never grows weary.

Heavenly Father, help us to turn our worries over to you in prayer. Help us to give every worry over to you and then help us not to pick them up again. Amen.
