POWER AND STRENGTH
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not grow faint.”
NLT Isaiah 40:28-31
The news we hear every day if full of tragic and negative events. In addition, each individual person has their own personal tragedies and negative events to deal with; things that do not make the news, yet have their own impact on us, nonetheless. All these things tire and weaken us. If can sometimes feel like a never-ending barrage coming against us. We would sometimes like to think that it is unique to our current time period because technology allows so much information and misinformation to come at us from all directions. Isaiah informs us that this is just part of being human.
What are we to do? How can we handle all of this? Isaiah tells us that God is everlasting and “never grows weak or weary”. That is fantastic news! Whenever we run out of our own strength, God will give us the power and strength we need. Are you feeling weak? Are you feeling powerless? The strength and power that God provides is for you.
How can you get God’s power and strength? The answer is simple. The answer is challenging. Just trust God. That is simple. The challenging part is letting go of all those things that get in the way of trusting God. We try so hard to be independent and self-reliant that we often do not recognize that we need God all the time to help us. Time spent regularly talking with God is a good start. He loves hearing from us. The more time spent in prayer, Bible study and straightforward conversation with God allows us to get to know God better. Then, it becomes easier for us to trust God, no matter what goes on in our lives. It takes time and effort, but the results will allow us to walk, run and soar!
Almighty God,
Thank you that prayer and asking for you help are not signs of weakness. Rather, they are signs that we recognize the importance of being connected to you and have placed our trust in you. Help us, O Lord, to let go of all that would keep us from the power and strength that you provide. Amen
