THE PERFECT GIFT
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back. Luke 6:38
As I think back over the past years and remember the gifts my daughter and granddaughters have given me, I smile. I smile because I realize how well they know me. There’s the warmer for my coffee cup that sits on the table beside my recliner. The gloves that can be warmed in the microwave so that my usually very cold hands are warm and cozy. I remember the boxes of chocolate covered cherries that I devoured and the cozy sweaters, can openers for arthritic hands, Christmas salt and pepper shakers…I could go on. But each gift shows how much my family loves me and how well they know my likes and my needs.
It says in James 1:17 that every good and perfect gift is from above. I believe my family whom I love so very much are gifts from the Lord. He knows me inside and out. He provides me with what and who I need, and He also delights me, feeding my heart’s desires.
My life is filled with blessings, each moment and every friend and family member precious and irreplaceable. Jesus has chosen them well. And when I add His gift of salvation to all the other blessings, I am overcome with gratitude.
But then…what do I give Someone who has everything? What can I give my Heavenly Father? I can offer Him all of me, my thoughts and my service for others, my prayers, my joys, my hopes and dreams and yes, my tears …my life. Will this delight Him? I believe so. Because I am a gift from God to His Son, my Lord.
Gracious Heavenly Father, I bless You and give You thanks for family and friends who know me and love me. But most of all, I give You thanks for Your Son, Jesus the Christ. Help me to serve You every day in ways that will bring glory to Your holy name. Amen.
