TIME
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1
Have you ever had one of those days where it seems as though there is just not enough time to get everything done? And, sometimes, just when you think you can finally relax because you just finished the last thing that needed to be done immediately, something else pops up. It also seems as though days like those are happening more and more often than not. Where does the time go? And why does that keep happening?
The pace of our lives tries to keep up with the pace of perceived needs. Every once in a while, it might be a good idea to remind ourselves that it’s OK for some things to be put on the “back burner” for a while. It is good to remind ourselves that we have limitations. It is good to remember that not everything can physically get done; because the laws of physics simply will not allow it to be so. Sometimes the correct answer is to say “No” or “Not right now,” simply because it is necessary for the given situation and especially for our own well-being.
God, the Father, and Jesus Christ have set the example for all of us to follow; that there is a time to work and a time to rest during which we allow absolutely nothing to happen. Of course, during that “nothingness” what does happen is that we have time to be restored, refreshed, and renewed. It is a very important time that allows us to have the ability to keep going through all of the other times of work and activity.
Infinitely Wise Lord, thank you for constantly reminding us of the importance of taking time to rest; when we allow our physical bodies and our minds to be refreshed and re-energized for the tasks yet to come. Thank you for setting the example for us to follow. Help us to realize that even when we think that we are the ones that must make the time to get things done that ultimately time is always in your hands. Help us to live in your time and feel the peace that you provide when we do that. Amen.
