I Need You
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
We live in a culture that promotes the individual. We are told that we can achieve anything that we put ourselves to doing. Athletes are praised for their abilities in their particular sports, singers are recognized as divas, actors or actresses are touted as stars, and anyone can become anything that they desire.
While watching the last part of the Masters Golf Tournament, it was beautiful to see the winning golfer, after tipping his hat to the throng of fans, took a moment and included his caddie in his walk off the last hole through the crowds. When listening closely as various golfers spoke about their achievements, it was refreshing to hear each one speak about their “team.” They acknowledged that they do not do this alone. And, truth be told, no one truly accomplishes anything alone.
No one athlete succeeds without the help of coaches and fellow teammates. No one singer succeeds without the help of trainers and fellow musicians.
No one actor or actress succeeds without the help of stagehands, make-up artists, fellow actors/actresses and a whole host of other people who work to make it all happen.
We all need other people in our lives one way or another. But more importantly, we all need God in our lives first and foremost. In my experiences, when God is first, everything else falls into place better than anything I could have ever imagined on my own.
Heavenly Father, I need you. Thank you for putting people in my life that make my life much better than I could have ever believed possible. Thank you for always providing. Help me to be the kind of person who shows your love to others so that they might know you and your love for them. Amen.
