WALKING ON WATER

Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You,

command me to come to You on the water.”

Matthew 14:28

I think the story of Peter walking on water is a really interesting one. Now, we all know that Peter was somewhat impulsive to say the least. But it boggles my mind that he would have even thought of asking Jesus to let him come to him on the water  in the middle of a storm. I think that the other disciples thought the same way I do. Obviously!!! Because  not one of them jumped up and said, “Me too, Lord! Me too!”   Only Peter asked Jesus to command him to walk on top of the water – on a dark night – in a storm!!! Jesus said, “Come” and Peter didn’t hesitate – not even for a second.

Well, everything went swimmingly (no pun intended) until Peter got nearer to Jesus. He started to lose his courage when he took his eyes off of Jesus and realized that those were huge waves all around him! Then fear overcame him, and he began to sink down into the water. But when he cried out, Jesus just simply reached out a hand and raised him up. Then the two of them walked on the water the rest of the way to the boat.

Personally, I’ve never had the desire to walk on water. But when I read this story, I wonder…. Have I at times limited myself in my Christian walk. Have I held back from serving Jesus in a certain area because I didn’t think I was good enough? Have I ignored a dream because it seemed impossible?

Maybe Jesus is waiting for me to get out of my comfortable boat and join Him in doing something amazing.

And maybe, just maybe  Jesus is waiting for you  to get out of your comfortable boat and join Him in doing something amazing!

Remember—when our courage falters, He will be right there to reach out His loving hand to us.

Gracious Heavenly Father, Help us to be ready to get out of our comfortable boats and get involved in this great work you have for us to do. We know that we  all have a job to do in service to you.  May we always be ready and willing. Amen.
