When It Comes Out of Nowhere
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
John 14:1
We all have difficulties in our lives. But every now and then, we face a difficulty that seemingly comes literally out of nowhere. It catches us off guard or even worse, it is like we just got tackled by a professional football player that we didn’t see and should not be anywhere near us.
We are left stunned and shocked. In the moment, we do not know exactly what happened or what to do. A realization comes over us that we need to do some self-care first in order to get our brain functioning again. And, perhaps, soon after that, we realize that we need help to deal with whatever it is that just happened. These are the tough moments in life that we would much rather not have to deal with at all. But, nonetheless, they happen.
Just as we often have preparations in place in case of any physical event, we can have preparations in place for our emotional events as well. Having a source of peace that we can tap into whenever we need is always good; along with sources of strength, assurance, support, comfort and most of all, love.
How can we so easily forget in moments of being stunned and shocked that our source for all we need is one place? God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit is with us regardless of time, place, or circumstances. We always have ready access to all we need. And we are especially blessed when we receive what we need in the form of a physical person who can give us that hug, kind word, or smile that lifts us up when we need it most.
Blessed and Caring Father, Thank you for all that you do to help us in our times of greatest need. Even times of physical need carry with them emotional needs as well. Help us to be the kind of people who can bring your loving care to those around who need it as well. Amen
