TALK ABOUT IT
Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children.
Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting
up. Deuteronomy 6:4-7
We often talk about a great variety of topics every day. The weather is a common topic of conversation. What we ate at a restaurant or what activities we were doing throughout the course of the day are also common topics. And let’s not forget all the topics we read about in social media and other sources.
How often do we engage in talking about God? We easily talk about just about everything else. Why do we feel uncomfortable talking about God?
The first answer would most likely be that we are not sure of how the other person will respond to what we are saying. We are deeply aware that not every person we meet believes in God. And there are some people who would become agitated by talking about God. So, what do we do?
We are blessed by being able to meet with other believers and talk about God freely. Meeting with other believers and having the opportunity to talk about God develops within us a strength of faith and a confidence that comes from God which enables to be more comfortable within ourselves. As that becomes more prevalent within us, it enables us to seek creative ways to talk about God. A good example comes from the book of Esther. Throughout the entire book, the name of God is not mentioned, yet we can easily sense God’s presence through the story. Have you ever considered trying to talk about God without using His name? Or have you tried to talk only about the qualities of Jesus? Just like the book of Esther, God can truly be present even without mentioning His name.
Precious Lord, you are amazing! You know our hearts and minds so well that you can use our small efforts and magnify them for your glory beyond our ability to comprehend. May you continue to bless our efforts to share your Word by talking about your great love for all people, even if we don’t mention your name. Amen.
