CONNECTION
A long time ago, when you wanted to make a phone call, you picked up the receiver part of your phone and moved another part of the phone to get the attention of a switchboard operator. When the operator answered, you asked to be connected for your call to go through. Then the operator would take a wire with a plug on the end and put it into the switchboard at the correct location for you to be connected to the person you wanted to talk to.
Today, we connect using phones without any wires and without the help of an operator. Either way, we still have the need to connect with other people regularly. Even more important is our need to connect to God regularly.
While looking for synonyms for the words connect and connection, I found the word yoke. At first, I thought that it was rather odd. How were yoke and connection similar? However, when I replaced the word yoke with the word connection in the Scripture quote from Matthew, it made much more sense.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my CONNECTION upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my CONNECTION is easy and my burden is light.”
When we connect to Jesus, we learn. The connection to Jesus is easy. When we are connected to Jesus, we can let go of what is making us feel weary, anxious, or stressed, our burdens. When we are connected to Jesus, we can feel enveloped in His perfect sense of peace and rest.
How truly beautiful it is when we take on the yoke of Jesus, the connection to Jesus!
Loving Jesus, you ask so little of us and give us so much goodness in return! Help us to always be connected to you so that the abundance of all that you give us overflows and inspires others that they may choose to know you, love you, and serve you. Amen.
