Council has written and approved a Code of Christian Conduct and Congregational Accountability in collaboration with The Transition Team. Based on the information presented by our Congregation during the listening circles we recognize the need for an improved method of accountability. This congregation is called to be a community shaped by the Gospel of Jesus Christ—one that reflects dignity, compassion, justice, and mutual respect. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, and abusive behavior contradict our baptismal calling and will not be tolerated in any ministry, meeting, worship setting, or congregational activity.

This policy establishes expectations for conduct, procedures for reporting concerns, and clear accountability when harm occurs.

Code of Conduct

 Have you ever wondered what the colors of the liturgical season represent?   

The Liturgical calendar colors are specific hues used for vestments, altar cloths and paraments to mark different seasons and feasts throughout the Christian church year. We will use the acronym “BG- BGS- PWR” to identify these colors.

Blue, the first color of the “BG-BGS-PWR” scheme, is the most contemporary color increasingly used by many congregations in their observance of a new calendar year. Advent, a preparatory time of waiting and watching, communicates the message of hope. Blue is primarily used during the season of Advent.

Green comes next in the acronym and is the most common color seen during the year. Representing life, hope and the ongoing spiritual growth of believers in their daily walk with Christ. Used during the seasons of Pentecost and Epiphany.

Black is seen very seldom during the year. Representing mourning and death, the calendar calls for its use only twice on Good Friday and Ash Wednesday. Without Christ’s sacrifice on the day the sky turned dark and hid the light of the sun, there would be no bright Light of Christ to live in, nor new life in Christ to enjoy. To be continued…

Liturgical Arts Coordinator Needed If you would like to glorify the Lord with your creative talents, please consider becoming the new Liturgical Arts Coordinator. You would be responsible for planning, creating and displaying our paraments in the sanctuary and narthex according to the Sunday and Festivals yearly calendar. If interested, contact Bob Mosca at 720-320-2482 for more information.

Help us fill the pantry shelves with healthy snacks for kids backpacks during the school year.

Please bring one or more non-perishable individually wrapped food items to the Rally Day Event, there will be a collection tub for your items.

Quilts and Stitches

On Saturday, October 3rd, from 10-3, Evergreen Lutheran Church will host a Quilts and Stitches Show at ELC in the Fellowship Hall. Admission is free.  

Our Piecemakers Group has been hard at work creating brand-new quilts, but we are also welcoming donations of quilts that have brought warmth and comfort to your home and can now do the same for others.

Please consider going through your boxes, closets, etc. to see if you would like to donate any of the quilts that you may have.  

Right now, we even have quilts with a provenance. These are documented quilts. We want vintage quilts, new quilts, family quilts that have comforted and still have some comforting in them that others will cherish.  

We will also be offering hand–made shawls, small and larger size bags that are perfect for carrying passports, phones, and you name it. The small office in the Church office is for the Piecemakers and all quilts will be put in there for safekeping.

 

All proceeds will go toward our operating budget. Please consider coming to the sale to benefit our church, have lunch, share stories with each other and enjoy our community.  

Now that summer is over, Kingdom Kids is back starting Sunday, September 13 at ELC. Kingdom Kids is ELC’s pull-out Sunday School for Preschool-5th Grade. During the church service, Pastor Wes will bless our Kingdom Kids and then they will go with their teachers for music and a lesson pertaining to that Sunday’s gospel. This instruction will last approximately 20 minutes. The students will return to worship in time for prayers and communion with their families. We hope to see your children soon. A huge shout-out to all of you who donated to my Komen 3-Day walk in Boston in August. We walkers and crew members raised a whopping $2.3 MILLION with the goal of no more deaths from breast cancer. Also, an article I wrote about breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen organization, and my 3-Day participation has been published in a good friend's online magazine!!! Jesus once declared, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31) This simple yet powerful command calls us to actively care for those around us. Whether it’s a coworker who needs a listening ear or a neighbor we share a fence or someone we share a pew with, these words remind us that love is meant to be shared generously.

We are in a period of transition as we seek new leadership, but one thing remains constant, that we care for one another. The areas we would like to focus on are the following:

Home Communion

Home Visits

Hospital Visits

Drivers (Doctor appointments, etc.)

Meals

There are a number of folks who have already volunteered for some of these ministries, but if you are interested in participating in caring for your neighbor, please email me and we will get things organized. If you would like to work in teams, that can be a good way to do visits and also to cover for each other if one of you isn’t available.

Thank you for considering to be a part of this important ministry in our church.
