Council has written and approved a Code of Christian Conduct and Congregational Accountability in collaboration with The Transition Team. Based on the information presented by our Congregation during the listening circles we recognize the need for an improved method of accountability. This congregation is called to be a community shaped by the Gospel of Jesus Christ—one that reflects dignity, compassion, justice, and mutual respect. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, and abusive behavior contradict our baptismal calling and will not be tolerated in any ministry, meeting, worship setting, or congregational activity.

This policy establishes expectations for conduct, procedures for reporting concerns, and clear accountability when harm occurs.

Code of Conduct

 Have you ever wondered what the colors of the liturgical season represent?   

How do I go about instructing and communicating appreciation for the colors of the church year and the seasons they support?  Some liturgical creativity is in order for this task. Think of a rainbow.  The rainbow is a vivid reminder of God’s promise given to Noah and his descendants. 

 “Roy-g-biv” is a helpful mnemonic in remembering that beautiful object of hope, and its red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet colors.  Let’s adapt that helpful device for use in taking a fresh look at the colors of the church year.  Traditionally, five basic colors of a festive, penitential and neutral nature have been used in most liturgical congregations.  In recent years, with liturgical renewal, three additional colors (blue, scarlet and gold) have been added to the basic five of white, red, green, purple and black.  Instead of “Roy-g-biv” may I suggest “Bg-Bgs-Pwr”?  This memory device stands for, blue, green, black, gold, scarlet, purple, white and red. “Bg-Bgs-Pwr”, enunciated “Big Bags of Power”, might at first seem silly. Not really. Because a humorous, yet effective memory technique such as this, is what we may need to remember this liturgical tool and the message it conveys throughout the year.  Each ”Bg-Bgs-Pwr” color has evolved through the centuries in the community of faith to communicate a powerful message.  A fresh look at the color scheme can reawaken our appreciation of this time-honored tradition.

Dear Evergreen Lutheran Church Members,

For 32 years, Evergreen Lutheran Church has held its Grove Sale. We are pleased

to report that the 2026 Grove Sale was again a great success. Our successful sale

has allowed us to disperse proceeds to even more non-profit groups than we

have in the past which truly supports our mission. Proceeds from this year’s sale

will be sent to following nonprofit organizations that serve our mountain

communities.

This was a labor of love for all of us and a great week of Fellowship which we could not

have done without you, our volunteers, who showed up day after day to help us

sort and price donations, our Facilities team, and those that kept us fed, our

wonderful kitchen crew, and of course those that helped us on the day of the sale.

The 2027 Grove Sale is scheduled for Saturday, August 7, 2027 from 7:30 am to

3:00 pm. We are looking for a few more people to help by taking on additional

responsibility in the organization piece of the Grove Sale.

We are truly thankful for your continued support of this important Outreach

mission.

Jesus once declared, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31) This simple yet powerful command calls us to actively care for those around us. Whether it’s a coworker who needs a listening ear or a neighbor we share a fence or someone we share a pew with, these words remind us that love is meant to be shared generously.

We are in a period of transition as we seek new leadership, but one thing remains constant, that we care for one another. The areas we would like to focus on are the following:

Home Communion

Home Visits

Hospital Visits

Drivers (Doctor appointments, etc.)

Meals

There are a number of folks who have already volunteered for some of these ministries, but if you are interested in participating in caring for your neighbor, please email me and we will get things organized. If you would like to work in teams, that can be a good way to do visits and also to cover for each other if one of you isn’t available.

Thank you for considering to be a part of this important ministry in our church.
