NATIONAL FRENCH DIP DAY
On November 12th, warm up some au jus and celebrate National French Dip Day!
Served up hot, tender slices of beef or pork on a French roll make up a delicious sandwich. Sometimes cheese is added. However, the key ingredients are the au jus and spicy mustard. The combination of tender beef swimming in a flavor bath of pan drippings absorbed into the crusty roll makes the French dip a decadent, multi-napkin experience everyone needs to have. And if you've never had one before, follow the instructions below and find one.
When your order arrives, apply a generous helping of mustard. Next, dunk your sandwich into the au jus for 2-3 seconds. Permit the bread to soak up the delicious, au jus. Be prepared for a flavor experience when you take your first bite of a French dip!

Two years ago, GNO, Inc. and 25 partners, including Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and LSU, were awarded a $50M grant by the federal government, “H2theFuture,” to develop low-carbon hydrogen technology, one of only 4% of national applicants to win funding.
This week, GNO, Inc., LSU, LED, and multiple partners celebrated a major outcome of the grant, the inauguration - or “spudding ceremony” - for a new, state-of-the-art, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) research well at the LSU Petroleum Engineering Research, Training and Testing Laboratory (PERTT Lab).
The well, which is to be used exclusively for research, and will not inject any CO2 into the subsurface, will support carbon capture and sequestration safety and monitoring practices. The project aligns with LSU’s and Louisiana’s goal to be a national leader in applied energy research, focusing on low-carbon technologies like CO2 capture, hydrogen processes, and sustainable fuels. The well will feature a large-diameter, carbon-steel outer casing, and corrosion-resistant alloy inner casing to prevent corrosion during CO2 experiments. It will have a 5,000-foot vertical section transitioning into a 7,000-foot depth, followed by a horizontal section of 500-1,000 feet, with an endpoint at approximately 7,900 feet.
“The project is part of a broader vision to position LSU as a national leader in demonstration-scale energy research, which will include other aspects of low-carbon technologies, such as CO2 capture and use, electrification, hydrogen processes, sustainable fuel production, and more,” said Karsten Thompson, LSU Petroleum Engineering professor and lead on the project. “[The new well] can be used for education and training, which is important because injection wells are being assessed across many parts of our state. More broadly, research on sensing, monitoring, and leak detection of CO2 will support safe and reliable carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) operations in Louisiana and throughout the world.”

Caribbean system likely to form as southeast LA braces for thunderstorms from Rafael remnants
A tropical wave located in the Caribbean Sea has a high chance of forming into a tropical depression or storm by the end of the week, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
The system was producing showers and thunderstorms over the central Caribbean Tuesday, forecasters said in a 7 a.m. update. Formation will likely occur as the disturbance slowly drifts westward, and forecasters said they expect the system to meander northwestward by the start of next week.
From the National Hurricane Center.
As of 7 a.m., there was a 40% chance of formation in the next two days and an 80% chance in the next week. Forecasters said residents across the western Caribbean should monitor the system's progress.
The system is not an immediate threat to Louisiana, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service of New Orleans, though they said it's too soon to know the specifics beyond formation.
Rafael's remnants
A weak low-pressure system associated with the remnants of Rafael is forecast to interact with a cold front and cause thunderstorms that will impact southeast Louisiana.
By Wednesday, "severe" thunderstorms will likely hammer southeast Louisiana as the remnants interact with the cold front, according to NWS forecaster Tim Erickson. While it won't necessarily feel cold, residents in the area can expect some drier conditions and slightly cooler evenings from Thursday morning through Sunday. The cold front is forecast to wash out the leftover remnants of Rafael on Thursday.
A second cold front will likely hit southeast Louisiana mid-to-late next week, Erickson said, though that will not be associated with the Rafael remnants.

"Also" serves as a modern equivalent of the word "eke," which historically meant to increase or extend something, often in a resourceful or makeshift manner. In contemporary usage, "also" conveys the idea of addition or inclusion, reflecting a similar spirit of enhancement. Just as "eke" implied making the most of what one has, "also" emphasizes the importance of bringing in additional information or elements to a discussion, enriching the context. Both words share a common thread of expanding meaning, yet "also" resonates more with the collaborative and interconnected nature of modern communication. | |

NATIONAL PIZZA WITH THE WORKS EXCEPT ANCHOVIES DAY
National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day says to hold the fishes! Anchovy lovers move over on November 12th. All the other pizza lovers get their due and pile on their toppings. This annual pizza holiday gets the spotlight with olives, pepperoni, sausage, peppers, and onions. How about mushrooms, bacon, or pineapple? Approved! Just no fishy business on this national day, or no pizza for you!
Classified as an oily fish, Anchovies are a family of small, common salt-water forage fish. There are 144 species found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Anchovies are small, green fish. They have blue reflections caused by the silver longitudinal stripe, which begins at the base of the caudal fin.
Traditionally, anchovies are processed in a salt brine and then packed in oil or salt, resulting in a strong, characteristic flavor. Optionally they may be pickled in vinegar, giving the anchovies a milder taste.
Pizza History (sans anchovies)
- In ancient Greece, the Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese. Some believe this practice is the beginning of the pizza.
- In Byzantine Greek, the word was spelled “πίτα,” pita, meaning pie.
- The Romans developed a sheet of dough topped with cheese and honey. They then flavored it with bay leaves.
- The modern pizza began in Italy as the Neapolitan flatbread.
- The original pizza used only mozzarella cheese and was produced in Naples using the highest quality buffalo mozzarella variant.
- In 1997, the United States produced an estimated 2 billion pounds of pizza cheese annually.
- The first United States pizza establishment opened in 1905 was in New York’s Little Italy.
- Americans love pizza. So much so, it's one of our favorite meals.
Now that you know all the ways pizzas are made, just be sure to leave the fishing pole at home, because this holiday is called National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day. Understood?

The God Conclusion
Shroud of Turin :
Shroud - woven linen made by a professional quality weaver, most likely only owned by a wealthy person (for example, Joseph of Arimathea).
Flax fibers are traced to the Eastern Mediterranean or Middle East.
The stitches are identical to an artifact found at Masada in Israel, dated 40 BC. e. and 73 AD.
And the rest of the fabric was dated between 300 BC. e. and 300 AD.
Chemical and biological testing proves the presence of a blood stain on the Cloak, blood type AB and MHC antigen group.
Moreover, the Shroud does not have any colorful pigments on it, eliminating the possibility that the Shroud is some supremely clever artistic fake.
The Shroud shows an adult male, five feet eleven inches tall, with shoulder-length hair and a beard, a man who suffered crucifixion in the Roman manner.

Henry Ford built a car out of hemp plastic that ran on hemp fuel almost a century ago.
Ford's 1941 bioplastic Model T was made of hemp, flax, wheat, and spruce pulp, which made the car lighter than fiberglass and ten times tougher than steel, wrote the New York Times on February 2, 1941. The car ran on ethanol made from hemp or other agricultural waste

Kerin Auth Bembry and John House, La Luz Wine Importers
swirl news
FNWS
This week, we have a special tasting combining a Trust Your Importer and a Meet & Greet event in one! Importers, La Luz Selections, carefully curates wine from producers emphasizing authenticity, sustainability, and a strong sense of terroir. Their portfolio highlights winemakers who practice organic, biodynamic, or natural farming and winemaking methods, ensuring minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Their diverse portfolio tends to feature small-scale, artisanal European producers with an emphasis on Spain & Portugal.
Kerin Auth Bembry, founder of La Luz, has built a strong reputation as an expert in Spanish wines after spending extensive time in Spain and developing close relationships with winemakers across the country. Her deep knowledge of the regions and indigenous grape varieties has made her a champion of small, family-owned wineries that produce wines with a focus on terroir, sustainability, and tradition. Through her import business, she has helped bring a wide array of natural and organic Spanish and Portuguese wines to the American market that showcase the diverse styles of the regions.
We are excited to have Kerin join us for Friday Night Wine School, focusing on her imports from Spain and Portugal. We'll be tasting 5 unique and approachable wines, authentic representations of indigenous varieties and local traditions. We hope you'll join us! 4 spots remaining, go here for tickets: - La Luz Selections - Importer/Winemaker Tasting, Spain & Portugal with Kerin Auth Bembry

The bright moonlight might make it hard to see the meteors this year, but follow these tips from astronomer Bob Berman, and you'll know everything you need to know to get the best glimpse.

7:30-8:30 Lindy Hop Vocab - Intermediate Level
This class is gonna give you some must know moves, some technique, some philosophy, and of course, we'll continue to clarify and polish up your swing outs.

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon,November 18
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

Super Bowl LIX may happen more than three weeks before Fat Tuesday, but the host committee wants to make sure the city -- and the throngs of visitors in town for the NFL's championship game -- get the carnival experience.
The day before the game, February 8, there will be a Mardi Gras-style parade complete with elaborate floats, marching bands, and throws.
Our partners at NOLA.com report details of the parade are still being finalized, but float-builder Barry Kern says it will likely be a 20-float parade made up of signature floats from various krewes.
And because it is not an official carnival parade, corporate sponsors will also be a part of it.
Todd Graves, founder of Baton Rouge-based Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, will serve as grand marshal.
Rather than follow one of the traditional Mardi Gras routes, the Super Bowl parade will line up on Elysian Fields in the Marigny, parade up Decatur Street along the French Quarter, then take Tchoupitoulas St. to Poydras, turn up to St. Charles Ave., then proceed along St. Charles to St. Joseph St. just before reaching Harmony Circle.

Just two days after Super Bowl LIX, Jefferson Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday on Feb. 11. Bicentennial festivities kicked off at the State of Jefferson address Tuesday with the unveiling of the official poster, depicting a pelican before the Mississippi River in vivid pink and blue hues. It is illustrated by Louisiana artist Becky Fos, known for designing the 2023 state "I Voted" sticker, modeled after the Louisiana state flag.
A limited supply of signed and numbered posters can be purchased for $150, with proceeds going toward the Jefferson Community Foundation.
Courtesy of Jefferson Parish
The parish will celebrate the bicentennial on Feb. 11 with a Light the Night event, followed by a community-wide king cake party at Lakeside Mall on Feb. 15.
The following month, a bicentennial-themed Senior Expo will take place at the Alario Center on March 20, and a "Park to Park" 10K run will happen March 22 at Lafreniere Park.
Festivities for the parish's 200th birthday will come to a close June 14 with the Bicentennial Ball at Lakeside Mall, hosted by the Jefferson Community Foundation. Lee Sheng said she wanted parish events to involve the entire community and asked residents and local business owners to get involved.
"I want our bicentennial to feel like everybody's a part of it," Lee Sheng said in her address.
