As you plan for the upcoming school year, it is very important that ALL 1st and 2nd-year-certified teachers are enrolled in the Missouri Teacher Development Program (MTDP) through your local Regional Professional Development Center. If a teacher is in their 1st or 2nd year of teaching in Missouri (no matter how many years of experience they have) they need to participate in MTDP.
The RPDC offers a variety of free/low-cost training for teacher development:
-
MTDS Beginning Teacher Assistance Program A (BTAP A): Five-day program designed specifically for the first-year teacher. Upon completion, this program meets all certification requirements.
-
MTDS Beginning Teacher Assistance Program B (BTAP B): Five-day program designed for teachers who need or desire additional support. Includes a one-day training session with Dr. Mike Rutherford.
-
MTDS Teacher Academy (TA): Started in 1995, the Teacher Academy is DESE's premier teacher development opportunity. In TA, teachers will engage in action research centered around their personal classroom with guidance from Dr. John Antonetti. TA is an eight-day program including two state-wide meeting days with Dr. Antonetti.
-
MTDS Mastering: Foundations of Coaching and Mentoring: Five-day program for teachers who will be mentoring/coaching first-year teachers.
