Commercial Advocacy.jpg

While NAR is in the forefront of advocating, researching, and educating on issues important to the real estate profession and industry, its advocacy work on behalf of commercial real estate is not always as evident - especially the work through RPAC, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee.

Last year NAR pivoted to protect commercial members and their businesses, as well as the economy and consumers. NAR leveraged the years of building great relationships with elected officials to ensure independent contractors, sole proprietors, and the self-employed had access to a raft of new rescue programs.

There were six major relief bills passed between March 2020 to March 2021.

The NAR team sent over a hundred letters to Congressional leadership and worked the phones, emails and Zoom meetings to protect the membership. NAR helped secure paid sick and family leave, direct stimulus payments, and scores of new tax change and benefits. Working with State REALTOR® leaders brought success in getting real estate as an essential service, keeping transactions moving during lockdowns. NAR also helped secure $25 billion in rental assistance.

Locally OKCMAR worked to advocate to expedite these programs as soon as possible, providing payments for rent, utilities and other expenses related to housing. It kept families in their homes and small landlords in business. Unfortunately, there is plenty of work still left to do.

That is why your continued support of RPAC keeps us in the position to assert the influence needed to advocate on behalf of the profession and the industry.

Remember, if you are not at the table, you could end up on the menu. Help us keep our seat at the table.

Should Tom have identified the building as having a revenue generating apartment?
