A few OKCMAR members attended the Commercial Real Estate Summit at UCO last Wednesday. Representing OKCMAR and MLSOK, Kimberly Robbins introduced the keynote speaker and kicked off a day of policy, financing and development as applied to commercial real estate.
The zoning and developers panels received high praise from the attendees. The policy track lifted up major challenges that will be faced by the commercial industry in the coming years. Tenants moving away from commercial space and outside investors not making the expected returns may result in a saturated market. Sarah Casey said, "There is a large push by municipalities to consider changes or updates to code enforcement concerning foreign-owned parcels, specifically those slated as abandoned."
"The CPA and attorney brought up a couple of crucial changes that are going to be made as far as taxes and determining the difference between a real estate investor and a real estate dealer, " said Kristi Hutton. There was also a focus on AI and its important role in commercial sales.
