Dear Parents,

Tuesday Tidbits, 3/21/17
I'd like to thank all of our families for their generosity last week.  Thanks to you, our NJHS was able to raise $1,272 for the Cheka School in Tanzania on the NJHS "Green Day". Congratulations to our NJHS officers for their great work on this event!

Welcome to all of our new families who will be joining us for the 2017 - 18 school year. All of them are now receiving the Tuesday Tidbits . We look forward to welcoming them to our school family on "moving on up day" in June!

On behalf of the faculty and staff I'd like to extend our gratitude to our amazing 3rd grade parents for the delicious Irish lunch last week. I'd also like to thank one of our students, Claire Bolton for baking the delicious green cup cakes last week; what a treat!

In anticipation of our school's continued enrollment growth and expansion plans, effective immediately,  we have restructured the focus and responsibilities of our Administrative team.  I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Rutledge has been named Vice Principal of grades 5 through 8 and Mr. Pryor has been named Vice Principal of grades 1 through 4. Both will take on the responsibilities of academics, discipline, standardized testing, and all other related areas specific to the grade levels for which they are responsible.

As special word of thanks to STS parent, Mrs. Richardson for coordinating this year's skate night, this past Saturday. The event was a great success and a wonderful time was had by all.

Please note that car raffle tickets were mailed home ot all STS families last week. You should be receiving them in the next few days. We appreciate your generosity and support of this important PTO fundraising event. Proceeds will go to help fund our investment in additional instructional technologies and our expansion.

I am excited to announce that our rising 8th grade students will be participating in our very own STEM Fair next year. This will replace the traditional Science Fair and will allow our students to showcase their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills. We are currently collaborating with Dr. Leslie Lipovski, Curriculum Coordinator for the Arlington Diocese, to finalize the plans for the event. We will also be creating an STS STEM website to update our parents on the event details and to share our students' progress on their projects. We currently looking for corporate partners to help train our students in STEM application and help up coordinate the event.  If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Dr. Testani or Ms. Lindsay Nash. More details are forthcoming.

Next week I will provide our school community with a date for our first School Expansion Town Hall Meeting.

For anyone who is interested, we do have a  travelling  Pilgrim Virgin Statue that can come for a visit to your home for a special birthday, anniversary, or perhaps you have an upcoming surgery. Our Lady loves to visit our homes, and she always brings peace and joy during these special visits. To sign up click here .

Mr. Joseph M. McLaughlin

Clinic Update:  Over the past week, there were many complaints related to URI's, abdominal pain, dry skin rashes, nose bleeds and still some reports of influenza.  Spring is here and so is allergy season: itchy eyes, runny nose, and nasal congestion. There are many good allergy medications over the counter or talk to your health provider.
Clinic Health News:     Peanut and Tree Nut Free Snacks
peanut allergy
Our school has many children with peanut or tree nut allergies. Many class rooms are nut free.  When choosing a peanut free snack for your child or a class party, it is important to ALWAYS check the label on the package to make sure it is free of peanuts and nuts of all kinds.
READING LABELS:   Some manufacturers clearly state if their product has peanut or nuts in it, while in others products, it is almost hidden.  PLEASE READ THE LABELS, each time you purchase snacks.  Manufacturers may have changed their equipment, product line, or processing method since you last purchased an item.
Do not purchase items with allergy and ingredient alerts such as:
"May Contain Peanut or Tree Nuts"
"Processed on shared equipment with Peanuts or Tree Nuts"
"Manufactured in a plant with Peanut or Tree Nuts"
"Contains Peanut or Tree Nut Ingredients"
For more information Click here: On this site is a very good handout to down load:   Peanut Allergy Avoidance List
Thank you for taking the time to read the labels and discussing the topic of "safe snacks" with your child!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Julianne Duffy, RN, BSN
Mrs. Mary K. Rogowski, RN, FNP, MS
