perserverance in completing their science fair projects, and a special acknowledgment & congratulations to all our winners. To see a complete list of the winners, click here. Thank you to all of our volunteer judges who graciously gave up an evening to judge our students. Thank you to Mrs. Young and Dr. Testani for their countless hours of reading abstracts, preparing our students, and overseeing the entire Science Fair process. We are indebted to you for your professionalism and commitment to our students.

Thanks to all for your generosity, and congratulations to our NJHS officers for organizing this year's Catholic School's Week Charity Collection!  Our National Junior Honor Society successfully collected over $600 for Ms. Bielaski's school in Africa.

Clinic News
We are happy to join the STS staff as your new school nurses.  We look forward to caring for your children and meeting many of you!

Weekly Clinic Update
Influenza is in our community, and some cases of the flu
have been reported in our school.  We have seen many flu-like symptoms in the clinic such as HA, fever, nausea, and vomiting.   If your child is diagnosed with the flu or any other communicable disease, please let us know.
The best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine each year.

Winter is also the season for nosebleeds.   Over the last 2 weeks, we have treated many students for nosebleeds.
Some suggestions to avoid winter -related nose bleeds:
1. Blow your nose only when necessary
2. Use a humidifier in your home to introduce moisture into the air
3. Apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to the inside of your nasal passages

For more information on the Flu vs. the Common Cold, Classroom Food Allergies, School Health Forms, New Immunization Requirements and much more, please visit the Notes from the Nurse on the school web site under Parent Resources

Reminder for 5 th grade Parents: Rising 6 th graders:  The State of Virginia requires a TDaP booster immunization prior to entering 6 th grade.   It may helpful to make your appointments now and hand in proof of immunization before the end of the school year. Otherwise it must be submitted before the first of day of 6 th grade.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Many Blessings,
Mrs. Julianne Duffy, BSN, RN
Mrs. Mary K. Rogowski, MSN, RN, FNP
