Bump and Beyond Family Wellness: Stress in Pregnancy Affects TWO Nervous Systems... Mom + Baby. January is Birth Defects Awareness Month, a time to focus on how early development is influenced by a mother’s environment. Chronic stress during pregnancy can impact both mom’s nervous system and the developing baby’s nervous system. Supporting calm, balance, and regulation during pregnancy helps create a healthier foundation for growth, connection, and resilience before birth even begins. Curious how gentle pregnancy care can help?

Mindful Moment: Your body sends whispers before it screams. That persistent headache, constant fatigue, or tight jaw aren't just inconveniences to push through, they're early warnings that something needs attention. We're conditioned to ignore minor discomfort until it becomes debilitating, but small signals matter. Check in with yourself daily: Where am I holding tension? What hurts? Am I actually tired or just avoiding rest? Addressing these quiet messages early, through sleep, movement, boundaries, or medical care, prevents bigger breakdowns later. Listening to your body isn't weakness or overreacting. It's maintenance on your terms rather than an emergency that decides for you.

The Safety Health and Wellness Committee: Slips, trips and falls are among the most common workplace injuries, and winter weather magnifies the risk. Snow, ice and wet entryways can quickly turn walkways into hazards. Facilities benefit from proactive housekeeping during the winter months. Clearing walkways, applying ice melt and placing absorbent mats at entrances help reduce risk. Employees should be reminded to use handrails, walk slowly and wear footwear designed for winter conditions. Inside, regular floor inspections help prevent hazards caused by tracked-in moisture.
