The Haven of Manitowoc County: Join us for Shamrocks for Shelter 2026, a St. Patrick’s Day–themed fundraiser supporting The Haven of Manitowoc County’s men’s homeless shelter. The event will be held Saturday, March 14th at Silver Valley Banquet Hall (1222 S Alverno Rd, Manitowoc) and features a four-person, bracket-style bean bag tournament, along with raffle baskets, 50/50 raffles, a human slot machine, live music by Hightower Entertainment, delicious food, and a best dressed contest. Wisconsin Maritime Museum: We invite you to join us for March’s Think & Drink on Thursday, March 5th, at 6:30pm at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Ecologist and research scientist Jed Meunier of the Wisconsin DNR will recount the harrowing night of October 8th, 1871, when the Peshtigo Fire became the deadliest wildfire in recorded history. Using tree-ring and fire-scar evidence, Meunier explores how drought, regional fires, and powerful winds fueled catastrophe and shaped wildfire lessons today.

This presentation will focus on pruning your shrubs and trees into shape and introduce novice gardeners to the fundamentals of pruning. Reminding ourselves to be safe. All it takes in one second to change our lives forever. We put ourselves on auto pilot – we have done this task 1000 times and nothing has happened to me yet. When we stop and take a deeper dive into the task…have we ever taken a shortcut to save time? Have we ever skipped over a step to speed up the process? Take the time to make sure we are doing the task correctly, each step. Safety first needs to always be on our mind, not speed, and not waiting for an injury to happen before we change our thinking.
