On July 24th, 1915, the SS Eastland was docked in the Chicago River, filled with thousands of Western Electric employees headed for a company picnic, which resulted in the greatest loss of life in a single shipwreck in Great Lakes history. Doors open at 6:00pm with the FREE talk starting at 6:30pm. | Young Professionals of Manitowoc County: Volunteer + Connect: Beach Cleanup is a free community event on Saturday, May 16th, from 9:00 to 11:00am along the Manitowoc lakeshore. Participants will join the Young Professionals to clean a local beach, with the location shared in advance. Supplies are provided, and volunteers should dress for the weather. It’s a great opportunity to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with others. Also, don’t miss the Serve + Connect: Volunteer Night at the Boys & Girls Club this Wednesday, May 6th, from 4:30–6:00pm, a quick, meaningful way to support local youth and meet fellow professionals. | Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will celebrate mom on May 9th with hands-on activities, demonstrations, a tea program, and free general admission for mom. A Mother’s Day tea will also take place at 1:00pm. Guests will be treated to an afternoon tea and program, centered on a fashion show through history, based off the dress and background of historic American Girls. Participants of all ages are welcome to bring their own dolls or stuffies. Tickets for Mother’s Day Tea include general admission for the day. | Patriot Riders of America WI Chapter 2: The 4th Annual Dennis J Murphy Memorial Ride/Cruise is June 6th and proceeds benefit Old Glory Honor Flight. The cost per Veteran to fly to Washington DC is $500. This trip gives our Veterans a chance to connect with each other and heal from their time in the service during WWII, Korea and the Vietnam War.
