Introducing the Weekly E News

As we head into the new year, we are UPDATING the Tuesday Ties to a weekly newsletter format. The purpose of this new format is to share the news in a more timely manner, instead of, waiting to bundle it all up in a once a month format.

The Weekly E News will cover current news articles, events, photos, and more each week as it is shared with the church office. You will find the Tuesday Ties Weekly E News as:

  • a Constant Contact email on Tuesday
  • posted to the homepage of our website - use the Weekly E News button - current & archived can be found there
  • a printed copy in the display racks at the 4th Avenue & State Street entrances

For those who are unable to attend in-person and/or do not have computer access, the Weekly E News will be printed and added to your weekly mailing along with a copy of the Sunday bulletin and sermon.

2025 Operation Christmas Child Update

Our final number for OCC shoeboxes received from First UMC was 103! Judy Deal with the helping hands of the Faith Seekers built 75 shoeboxes that were purchased by members of the congregation. Those shoeboxes are headed to Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Guatemala, and a hard to reach area. Also, we had six folks travel to the OCC Processing Center in Charlotte, NC to volunteer.

For those who individually packed shoeboxes and chose to track the journey, check your email for details regarding your shoebox.

2025 Endowment Annual Report

The Endowment Committee is grateful for the opportunity to support the life and ministry of First United Methodist Church through the careful stewardship of our endowed funds. Throughout the past year, these resources have allowed our church to respond to important needs, care for our facilities, and support future generations in meaningful ways.

Throughout the year, the committee approved several distributions from endowed funds, and also approved several grant applications through the Endowment Grant Ministry.

In regards to distributions, Scholarship support remained a vital part of our work, with both General and Moffitt Scholarship funds assisting 15 students in their educational pursuits. Endowment funds also supported several essential maintenance and capital projects, including the installation of a new 2nd floor office air-conditioning unit, tree trimming and removal, and a sump pump replacement in the parsonage basement. Additionally, the committee funded the demolition of the former Youth/Scout House, preparing that area for future ministry use.

Grant approval funding allowed the church to strengthen several key ministries and programs. Grants supported Biesecker Choir Section Leaders, Education & Program Choir Section Leaders, enhancements to the Eddie Smith Youth Room, assistance to the Mission and Outreach Kindermusik program, and the Backpack program for the children at Charles England and Pickett Elementary Schools—all helping enrich worship, discipleship, and outreach across our congregation and community.

Further support was provided for Columbarium care, Altar Guild needs, and general service items such as a new ice machine and administrative supplies.

The committee remains committed to prayerful oversight of these funds so that they may continue to strengthen the mission and ministries of First United Methodist Church. We appreciate the faithful support of our members and celebrate the lasting impact these gifts make in the life of our church.
