National School Bus Safety Week, a program of the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT), the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and the State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) is October 22-26, 2018. This year’s theme “My Driver – My Safety Hero!” is perfect to coincide with Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Illinois which is Monday, October 22.

During the month of October, we invite everyone to recognize the dedication of our DuPage County school principals. The Illinois Principals Association encourages the use of the hashtag #thankaprincipal to publicly thank school administrators while using social media.
ROE Features
Short-Term Substitute Teacher Training, October 12
Calling all DuPage County school districts who need to increase their pool of substitute teachers! The DuPage ROE is offering the required training for this new short - term substitute teacher license. This training MUST be completed PRIOR to teaching on this license. Although not required or developed for regular substitute teachers ,  the training is also open and available to those educators as well. Click here for more information and to register. Administrators' Academy
The Administrators’ Academy is a process by which local school district administrators meet legislated requirements for continuous professional development. The DuPage Regional Office of Education is pleased to offer a variety of workshops specifically for school administrators. Below are just a few of the upcoming offerings. Truancy Referral and Procedures, October 18*
*Due to high demand an additional date has been scheduled
This training includes legislative and Illinois School Code correlation, interfaces with ESSA, School Report Cards and policy; referral process inclusive of interventions, documentation, administrative hearings, court; ISBE, Individual Optional Education Plan (IOEP); Attendance Improvement Mentoring (AIM); Active Parenting Education and trauma-informed continuum. In order to continue to complete chronic truancy referrals to the Regional Office of Education, a district representative needs to attend one of the workshops. Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS) Training, October 18

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Site-Based Offerings and Networking
Social and Emotional Learning sessions offered through the DuPage ROE provide customized support to districts and schools addressing SEL system-wide. Family Engagement Sessions
Family Engagement training sessions by the DuPage ROE provide customized support for school/district teams in developing and expanding school-family partnerships. Developing a Strong School, Family and Community Partnership, October 25
This workshop will focus on the importance of school, family and community partnerships. Participants will learn ways to create community partnerships, develop a needs assessment and create an action plan for success. Click here for more information and here to register.
The Administrator Academy (AA) is a process by which local school administrators meet legislated requirements for continuous professional development.  Unless noted, all Administrator Academies will take place at the Center for Professional Learning (CPL) located at 505 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton.

Please note that ISBE Retraining Academies needed for Teacher/Principal Evaluators are included in the attached listing.
Teacher In Service for DuPage Educators (TIDE) Fall sessions are now open. New cohorts include Reading, Early Childhood, LBS1 (Wheaton and Lisle locations), technology and ESL. Also available are two new Climate Change courses designed to build upon the understanding in the content area of ELA/SCIENCE/RESEARCH around Climate Change.

Get Inspired: Science & Engineering Practices 2 & 3, November 5
Develop practical ways to increase the effectiveness of teacher and student use of models and model-building in the classroom. Participants will also explore ways to make scientific investigations less rigid, and more authentic and meaningful, without sacrificing a lot of class time. Brush Up on Science & Engineering Practices 6 & 7, November 19
Participants will revisit the requirements that satisfy Science & Engineering Practice 6, Constructing Explanations & Designing Solutions, and Practice 7, Engaging in Argument from Evidence, while exploring numerous ways to modify current curriculum to incorporate them. Creating and Nurturing STEM Learners, November 14
Dr. Jay Thomas will discuss his research on creativity and motivation as it pertains to STEM learning and Leslie Kressin will share her experiences as a student and professional in a STEM field.
