Montanans Support Governor Gianforte’s Business Equipment Tax Reform
HELENA, Mont. — A top priority in his Budget for Montana Families, Governor Gianforte’s proposal to reform the state’s business equipment tax to help small businesses, as well as family farms and ranches, received widespread support in a legislative hearing this morning (Tuesday).
In 2021, the governor worked with Rep. Kassmier to increase the business equipment tax exemption from $100,000 to $300,000.Taken together, these reforms eliminate the business equipment tax burden for more than 5,000 small businesses, farms, and ranches. Many testified in support of the bill before its committee this morning.
Todd O’Hair, President and CEO of the Montana Chamber of Commerce:
“From neighborhood print shops to farms and ranches, lowering the tax on equipment necessary to run a business allows those businesses to reinvest in their success and drive economic development for their local communities. Approximately 5,000 Montana businesses will benefit from lowering the business equipment tax which makes this a top priority for the Montana Chamber of Commerce, and we applaud the business-minded approach Governor Gianforte is taking to grow Montana’s economy.”

JOIN US IN WELCOMING
CANDACE CARR STRAUSS
Candace Carr Strauss has joined the Montana Chamber of Commerce as our Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Candace will be responsible for all of our outward facing marketing and communications—from social media, our website, digital communications and public relations. Given her experience and expertise, Candace will also be the Chamber “point” on tourism and outdoor recreation. Tourism is one of Montana’s leading industry sectors and service exports.
Strauss spent four years leading the Big Sky Chamber, Visit Big Sky, and the Big Sky & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Information Center (VIC) in an unincorporated Montana mountain resort community growing exponentially in popularity as a ski destination and gateway to America’s first National Park – Yellowstone. Under her tenure, the destination became the largest bed tax revenue collector in the state. More recently, Strauss held the post of President/CEO of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau and VIC at the start of 2021, in the middle of the pandemic. There she represented the world-renown destination’s $1 billion tourism industry as a 3-C Chamber and its official Destination Management Organization under Arizona’s first Sustainable Tourism Plan. These roles have garnered Strauss deep experience with communities, local government, and public land managers facing growing pains and overburdened infrastructure.
