Mayor Eric Johnson names Lynn McBee as Workforce Czar

Photo and brief
By Marva Sneed

Mayor Eric Johnson on Monday named Lynn McBee as his Workforce Czar to help “boost upskilling efforts,” which he says is a top mayoral priority.
McBee will be responsible for helping to implement the recommendations from the new report, Upskilling Dallas: How to Modernize the City's Workforce for the Jobs of Tomorrow.
McBee ran for mayor of the city of Dallas and has known Mayor Johnson for 15 years. As Workforce Czar, she will be responsible for building and executing strategies to implement the report's recommendations, including establishing formal agreements with existing workforce development organizations, such as Dallas College, Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, and other providers.
"I'm excited to work with Mayor Johnson on this issue that's so important to our city, our families and our future,” said McBee. “Workforce development will not only lift families and communities and create more opportunity and growth, but it also addresses equity, it's a step forward in eliminating racial barriers, and it's key to ending systemic cycles of poverty.” .

Candidates for Texas Governor, Attorney General and the 30th Congressional District will face off at a political forum sponsored by the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Friendship-West Baptist Church (FWBC) on Sunday, January 16, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at FWBC, 2020 West Wheatland Road, Dallas.
According to Dr. Andrea Hilburn, president of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter, the forum falls under the auspices of the sorority’s National Social Action Commission.
“Delta Sigma Theta Sorority continues to institute activities that focus on voter registration and education programs; combating voter suppression and supporting the full restoration of voting rights for individuals who have paid their debt to society (ex-offenders),” said Dr. Hilburn. “We are encouraging citizens to come out and become educated about the issues and the candidates. Then go and vote!“

In 2018 on International Women’s Day, Barbie launched it’s “Inspiring Women Series” focused on “[honoring] historical role models who paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before.” The series was apart of Mattel’s “Dream Gap” campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about the issue of representation for young girls and research that showed “that girls began to view their gender as inferior to boys and develop limiting beliefs about themselves at as young as 5 years old, as a result of cultural stereotypes, implicit biases and media representation.”

The flight attendants’ union say pilots get away with not wearing masks on and off planes while its members are being reprimanded.
By Kyle Arnold

The union representing Southwest Airlines flight attendants says the company is refusing to enforce mask mandates with pilots, on and off airplanes.
Transport Workers Union Local 556, which represents 15,400 flight attendants, said Friday that many of the carrier’s pilots are not only going mask less in the cockpit as allowed by Federal Aviation Administration rules but they’ve also dropped face coverings during on-ground training. The union said its members are still required to wear masks and are reprimanded if they don’t.

The Path

As we walk through life's journey,
we leave footprints.
Some just show where we are going.
Others redirect us when we get lost.
Still others remain
to guide those we leave behind.
I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
