Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Thank-you for all of your kind comments on our Pentecost service last Sunday!! Many of you commented on the full decoration of the altar area despite the pews being empty. It has been my attempt throughout this shelter at home experience to provide worship from our sanctuary with as little change as possible. I strongly believe maintaining as much of our regular routine is important for our spiritual and mental health. So again, thanks!
I should also mention along with live streaming the service on YouTube, we are also now streaming live on Facebook! The only difference between the two experiences is that you can go back and watch any service at anytime on YouTube... only the live stream is available on Facebook.
It's hard to imagine any news item overshadowing a world pandemic but it has happened! The rallies and protests surrounding the recent death of George Floyd has opened an old wound that has never really healed. Racism is still alive in America today. The injustice that often is experienced by our African American citizens is simply not acceptable and is contrary to Christian values and responsibility. The peaceful protests are appropriate in the effort to bring about real change. The senseless and very disturbing sacking of businesses and looting is shameful to be sure. To use the pain and open wounds of racism as a cover for blatant destruction and thievery is simply wrong!
Our faith in Christ, which we try to live out each day of our lives, calls us to make a difference in the world today....to move beyond condemnation and blaming to finding ways to heal the hearts and souls of all God's beloved. Join me in prayer today that the voices of peaceful protest not only in America, but around God's world, bring healing and help create a vision of God's kingdom on earth.
