Tuesday's Tip

Cinderella Around the World

New Supplemental Reading & Listening Resources

Did you know there are nearly 1,000 variations of the Cinderella story worldwide? To help your students practice English through familiar themes, we have curated a collection of 23 Cinderella stories from diverse cultures. Each story includes a YouTube video for listening practice and a carefully prepared transcript for reading before watching the video

.

Why use these resources?

Listening to these stories helps students master English pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation.

To support different learning levels, our new Index of 23 Cinderella Stories categorizes each tale by:

·      Country of Origin

·      Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level

·      Word Count

Tutoring Tips:

Pre-teach: Preview the transcript to identify difficult vocabulary. Define these words with your student before listening.

Use these stories to spark conversation based on your student’s level:

Beginning: Simple Q&A to check basic comprehension.

Intermediate: Discuss cultural details, identify common story elements (parallel themes), or compare two or more different stories.

Advanced: Challenge your student to write their own original Cinderella story.

Download the Index here:

Or email fayejhts@comcast.net for a copy of the Index.

Educational Opportunities

"Anyone who stops learning is old...

anyone who keeps learning stays young." — Henry Ford

According to the calendar, you may be getting older every day, but according to Henry Ford and many others, Learning keeps your mind active and young! And continuing education webinars such as those offered by ProLiteracy, Florida Literacy Coalition, IPDAE (Institute for the Professional Development of Adult Educators), and Literacy Minnesota, will help keep your tutoring interesting, exciting and rewarding.

These organizations offer live webinars and maintain a library of past webinars on most aspects of teaching/tutoring English from a literacy or English Language Learning aspect. We have tried to keep you updated on current offerings, but unfortunately, we often receive notice of webinars too late to be published before they occur. Therefore you are encouraged to explore webinar offerings directly on their websites. Once you have registered for a webinar, you will automatically receive notice of future webinars. The webinars are routinely recorded and made available for later viewing, so if you miss the live presentation, you will be able to view the recording at your convenience.
