Dr. Walter P. Kelley
1945-2013
Walter was born in Ferris, Texas. He attended private oral school for deaf children and regular public school. He received his B.A from Baylor University at Waco, an M.A from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He taught deaf students for over 25 years. He lectured on National Native American Indian education, stabilizing indigenous languages, and children's picture books of Deaf Culture and Deaf History. He served as a consultant to Southwestern Native American Indian communities to serve their Deaf and hard of hearing tribal members. Dr. Kelly has written five books for children of the world to appreciate Deaf culture.
