Words of Encouragement
from Kyle Tallman
One of my favorite things that we do as a family is make pancakes on Saturday mornings. I guess you can say that over the last year and a half, it’s become sort of a family tradition. Each Saturday morning, we break out the mixer, fire up the stove and ask Alexa to play the “Head & The Heart.” My kids eagerly pull up their chairs to the counter to participate in the magic as we “make” the pancakes.

I have to be honest, there is no intense cooking going on here. Little do they know we use a pre-made mix and all we have to do is add water. But to them it’s magic as we get to be chefs, creating a feast that requires skill and precision. During this time, one thing that I’ve noticed as my son has gotten bigger, is that he always wants to see what’s happening inside the mixer. The noise produced by the mixer churning back and forth seems to pique his curiosity enough to where he just can’t wait to see what’s going on. Every week it’s the same thing, “Daddy let me see."
Sometimes, I feel like that’s how I am with God. Often times I find myself in situations where I can’t seem to see the other side. I desperately want to know the rest of the story. My prayers come out like a request to receive a glimpse of the ending or resolution. Often times my prayers can sound like, “Lord show me” or “help me understand.” But what I’m really saying is, “God, what’s the deal here?” I find myself listening to the noise, longing to see what’s going on inside of the mixer.

Right now is one of those times. I don’t know what the future holds and I long for the ending to be revealed like a Paul Harvey broadcast:  and now for the rest of the story … Friends, we are living in a time where our lives and the world around us may never be the same. And while we can’t see what’s happening behind the scenes or what’s going on inside the mixer, one thing stays the same — our hope is in Jesus. In our most uncertain times, we  hope  and we  trust  the Lord’s unfailing love. We lean in to Psalm 33:20-22

20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
    for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
    even as we put our hope in you.
