Happy PRIDE Month!

June is Pride Month, a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and a commemoration of the New York City Stonewall riots in 1969. To celebrate Pride Month, we have assembled this list of book recommendations and are hosting special programs detailed below.

Perfect Picnics and Passes

It's picnic weather! Bill has created a list of cookbooks that focus on preparing the perfect picnic. So start prepping and packing!


Now is also the perfect time to visit a museum. Bill has also put together information about our Museum Pass Program - made possible by The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation - which provides free access to local museums. Check out all these resources here!

Brown Bag Book Club

Join us on Tuesday, June 20, 12:00 pm to discuss Manhattan Transfer by John Dos Passos. Books available from the first floor hold shelf.

COMING UP: SPECIAL EVENTS

"Sing Your Heart Out!" Adult Singing Workshop

Music maestro Robert Puleo is back at NRPL to lead the Spring/Summer session of the “Sing Your Heart Out!” Workshop for adult singers. Rehearsals take place Saturdays and Mondays at the Library. The next session is Saturday, June 3, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. New comers welcome!! Click here to see the full rehearsal schedule and here to learn more and register. Show Your Pride!

In celebration of Pride Month, New Rochelle librarian and film historian Chris Poggiali will introduce and discuss BROS (2022) on Tuesday, June 13, 5:00 pm.


In this romantic comedy from the producer of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Bridesmaids, screenwriter-comedian Billy Eichner plays Bobby, a struggling podcast host who hates commitment. Learn more and register

Virtual Tour: Safe/Haven

Join us on Wednesday, June 14, 6:30 pm for a virtual tour of the New York Historical Society Safe/Haven: Gay Life in 1950s Cherry Grove exhibit. The exhibit explores the gay and lesbian community that flourished during the 1950s in Cherry Grove through some 70 photographs and additional ephemera from the unique holdings of the Cherry Grove Archives Collection. Celebrating Juneteenth at NRPL!

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery, and celebrates African American history, culture and achievements. Join us in celebration at these arts and culture events:

Be Inspired By the Sights and Sounds of Jubilations!

Be inspired by the sights and sounds of jubilation as you create a paper collage in celebration of Juneteenth on Thursday, June 8, 4:00 - 6:00 pm.


Participants' work will be photographed and included in a digital quilt, reminiscent of the beautiful story quilts African American women created to record ancestral history and family memories. These quilts were also often embedded with codes to lead others to freedom along the Underground Railroad. Children and adults encourage to participate and create together! Registration requested.

African Drumming Workshop and Performance

On Thursday, June 15, 4:00 - 5:30 authentic African rhythms and culture will be brought to life in a multigenerational African Drumming workshop, led by Master Drummer, Kazi Oliver. At 6:30 pm, Kazi and his band will present an inspiring African Drumming concert.


Registration requested for the workshop and performance.

Jazz Concert

On Saturday, June 17, 5:00 pm, join us for a jazz concert by Global Jazz Community All-Star Women's Band. This all female ensemble features Camille Gainer, Mimi Jones, Clarissa Sinceno and Dinah Vero who will perform selections by Billy Taylor, Bobby Timmons and others. Registration requested.

Kids' Corner

Love is Love!

To celebrate Pride, we’ve selected some of our favorite Picture Books & Chapter Books that focus on the LGBTQIA experience. It’s a rainbow of reading you and your family are sure to enjoy!

Show Your Pride Art Workshop

Children ages 6 and up are invited to drop in on Monday, June 12, 4:00 - 5:30 pm to celebrate PRIDE month by creating a colorful rainbow craft to display or wear.

Rainbow of Reading Drag Story Hour

Join us on Saturday, June 17, 11:00 am for a special Rainbow of Reading with Drag Story Hour. It's a fabulous, fun-filled story time with books, songs and a craft with special guest Kitty Ka’Boodlez that celebrates inclusion, diversity and individuality. 


For children 3-8 years and their families. Tickets are required to attend. One ticket per family. A child must be present to receive a ticket and to participate in the program. Tickets can be picked up from the Children’s Room the morning of the program. Space is limited. First come, first served.

Get Creative for Juneteenth

Be inspired by the sights and sounds of jubilation as you create a paper collage in celebration of Juneteenth on Thursday, June 8, 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Children of all ages and their grown-ups are encouraged to join in this inspiring, interactive workshop. Registration requested

Under the Sea

Has your child seen the new Little Mermaid movie and wants more undersea adventure? Check out these fin-tastic mer-books from the library and make them "part of your world!"

Pre-School Fun and Fitness

Children and their caregivers are inspired to "Get Moving" on Thursday, June 8, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. This fun-filled hour features movement, games and healthy eating and lifestyle tips, conducted by the health & fitness team from Montefiore New Rochelle Woman, Infant and Children (WIC) Program.

Tween Club

On Tuesday, June 6, 4:30 -5:30 pm, tweens 9-12 years are invited to join us at Tween Club. Hang out with old friends and new to play board games or color. The perfect way to de-stress after school!


Mark your calendar and sign up for the Tween book discussion on Tuesday, June 13, 4:30 - 5:30 pm to chat about Maizy Chen's Last Chance by Lisa Yee! Registration required. The first 8 registrants will get a free copy of the book!

Summer Weekend Hours

The Library is closed Sundays June 4 - September 3.


Summer Saturday hours will go into effect on Saturday, June 24. Beginning on this date, the Main Library will be open 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and the Huguenot Children's Library will be closed on Saturdays. Regular Saturday hours will resume on September 9.


The Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, July 4

What an Honor!

On Sunday, June 4, 11:30 am, Westchester County is honoring the New Rochelle Public Library along with other local libraries at the LGBTQ Pride Flag Raising ceremony. Details.

Cocktails and Conversation

On Thursday, June 22, 6:30 pm, The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation presents author Jonathan Rosen who will discuss his book, Best Minds: A Story of Friendship Madness, and the Tragedy of Good Intentions. Learn more and purchase tickets here.

Teen Scene

There is ALWAYS something happening in the NRPL Teen Room. Stop by on Tuesday, June 6, 4:00 pm for Teen Trivia. See who knows more in the first Teen Room video game trivia contest. There will be prizes!!

Candidates Forum for Democratic Primary
