Dear Friends of AHP,
We want to make you aware of a study investigating the effects of an agaricus-turkey tail mycelium biomass product (Host Defense) in conjunction with a COVID-19 vaccine. The study is an extension of a previous study published January 31 in BMC Immunology and reported in AHP’s News & Views on March 4. In the previous study, the mycelium preparation reduced adverse effects of the COVID-19 vaccine and maintained the desired immune response. In a preliminary review of this study, Polypore Mushroom Mycelia for Treatment of Active COVID-19 Infection: A Randomized Clinical Trial, the same preparation (Host Defense) was given in conjunction with a COVID vaccine. A significant reduction in severity of COVID symptoms (coughing, sore throat, and muscle aches) was reported.
A pre-print version of the paper can be accessed at “Med Archives” at the following link. The article includes a comprehensive table showing serum, viral load, and symptom efficacy.

We congratulation the researchers and Host Defense who are currently or soon will be conducting in vitro tests on other viruses, including Ebola, bird flu (H5N1), and pox. These papers represent a unique contribution to the mushroom product literature.
