"Happiness held is the seed;
Happiness shared is the flower."
John Harrigan
Oh how grand it is to be back in the garden and preparing for the growing season! Anyone else turning dirt these days? It's definitely not the glamorous part of gardening, but it is vital to the process. Loosening the soil means you've prepared the ground to receive what's yet to be planted. Be it a seed or a seedling, the soil you drop it into will determine how hard that seed must work to establish a rooted base and begin to flourish.

We say things like, "plant the seed" when referring to new things or ideas. Ideas possess the same potential to grow and become something grand when plopped into loosened minds. But before ideas can be shared with the person sitting next to you, or the entire universe, we must till the soil. It's the part where questions are asked and answered and brainstormed. The dirt is being turned. This process, loosens us up. We become receptive to the ideas being shared. We work together to remove obstacles and begin to develop a plan. And in time, we watch the idea grow.

One of my favorite parts about gardening is the varying timetables of plant life. From germination to harvesting, each plant has a different timeline it will follow, creating an entire season of anticipation and surprise. You cannot rush this process. You simply do your best to nurture and create the best environment for each plant to grow.

Ideas also take time to grow, and often, they too cannot be rushed. Working together, being open minded, and encouraging one another fosters the best environment for ideas to thrive. I hope this Spring you find yourself turning dirt. I hope your grinding through questions and preparing yourself and those around you for the possibility of something grand to blossom.

The reality is, ideas are everywhere. It's just a matter of will you be ready when one finds you?

EXERCISES TO PREVENT FALLS
Many types of exercise can help improve balance. Tai chi and yoga are good examples. Here’s another one to try. You can do it anytime and almost anywhere.
• Stand next to a counter or solid support.
• Push yourself up onto your tiptoes.
• Hold for 5 seconds. If you start to lose your
balance, hold on to the counter.
• Rest and repeat 5 times. Work up to holding for
20 to 30 seconds, if you can.
