Welcome Back

We're excited to present our spooky October issue of "Turtle Talk," a monthly e-blast with the latest updates and news-you-can-use about the South Bay Local Travel Network (LTN), produced by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG).

Here's a little reminder: the LTN is planned to be a 243-mile network of existing, low-speed routes that are designed to accommodate travel via small, low-speed vehicles (aka street-worthy golf carts, e-bikes, pedal bikes, e-scooters, etc.).

Golf Cart Crew Haunts South Bay Streets

It's time to get decorating for the fifth annual Halloween Golf Cart Crew parade. Choose a theme, deck out your golf cart, costume up and cruise the beach communities with the Golf Cart Crew on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 4 p.m. Gift card prizes ranging from $50 to $100 will be awarded for the Most Spooky, Greatest Group, Cutest Animal Costume, and Fan Favorite categories.

Don’t have a golf cart? People watching is half the fun of this family friendly event.

Golf carts, or neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs), are a great way to enjoy your surroundings and engage with your neighbors. The Golf Cart Crew holds several holiday parades throughout the year, which bring the community together for slow-speed fun.

To register your golf cart for the parade, visit www.golfcartcrew.com

Check out our video recap of the 2022 Halloween parade below. Organizers and participants explain why they're embracing the slow-speed lifestyle.

Rolling into the Future

Nissan Launches Battery-Swapping Car

Nissan has partnered with Spanish conglomerate ACCIONA to distribute the Silence electric microcars and motorcycles in Europe. Among these is the S04 nanocar, the only car with removable and swappable batteries. Customers have the option to purchase a subscription of £20 a month to replenish batteries at battery swapping stations. The L6E model reaches top speeds of 45 kmh/h and starts at £13,000.

New micromobility innovations and technologies are constantly emerging from around the world. We want to showcase some of these exciting vehicle inventions in the industry. Perhaps you’ll spot one of these devices cruising around the South Bay in the near future.

Legislation We're Watching

No Tolls for Micromobility Users

AB 2669, authored by Assemblymember Philip Ting, and signed into law by the Governor, guarantees that pedestrians, cyclists, and micromobility users will not incur a toll when crossing a toll bridge constructed before 2025.

Ever wonder how our legislators plan to address issues surrounding low-speed vehicles, mobility and traffic safety? In this Legislative Tracker feature, we will spotlight a local, state or federal piece of legislation pertaining to low-speed travel in a quick, easy-to-understand explanation.
