Nesting and hatching are in full swing in the Florida Keys

Our first hatch of the season on June 26th!
We had our first nest hatch and our permitted volunteers rescued a few wayward hatchlings. You can see the hatchling tracks from the nest headed out to the ocean in the pictures above. We look forward to many more hatches this season!
We can't say it enough, clean dark and flat!
Obstacles on the beach can be a disaster for nesting and hatching sea turtles!
In the top three pictures you can see what a poor nesting sea turtle on one of our Middle Keys beaches had to go through to get back to the ocean! She got stuck and dragged this beach chair all the way back into the water with her before freeing herself and making her escape.

In the bottom photo you can see a large amount of plastic trash on one of our Lower Keys beaches. Our hatchlings will have to crawl through that to make it to their ocean home. If you see trash, please pick it up, even if it isn't yours. Help those babies make it to the water safely!

This is why we always stress "clean, dark and flat" beaches. If you're interested in ways to go plastic free, take a look at Plastic Free July.
Cool Merchandise Alert!
Save-A-Turtle has added merchandise to our store including youth t-shirts! Take a look at our site and add some turtle-y awesome sea turtle gear to your collection while helping us in our sea turtle conservation efforts.
