It's not over until Mom says so!

As summer winds down, so does sea turtle nesting season here in the Keys —but don’t let your guard down just yet! This Labor Day, a determined female sea turtle made her way onto the beach, ready to find the perfect spot to lay her eggs. She crawled around, leaving a beautiful sand angel in her wake, but her search was interrupted by beach furniture.

Despite her best efforts to navigate around and under the obstacles, she eventually gave up and returned to the ocean. It’s a stark reminder of how important it is to clear the beach when we leave, especially during this critical time of year.

We’re all rooting for her to return and try again. In the meantime, let’s do our part by ensuring the beach is free of any barriers that could hinder these incredible creatures on their nesting journey. Every small action we take can make a big difference for our sea turtles!

Remember...clean, dark and flat

WE CAN ALL HELP!

Recent boat strike victim! Red arrow indicates start of strike wound.

It's an all too common occurrence when boats and marine animals meet on the water... boat strikes! Sadly, we receive calls on these occurrences FAR TOO OFTEN.

One way that you can help protect marine life when you’re out enjoying the waterways is to have a designated marine animal spotter on board whenever possible. Somebody that is looking out constantly for the dolphins, manatees and sea turtles that may be found in our waterways.

Additionally, please make sure you’re following slow speed and no wake signs.

If you encounter an injured marine animal while you’re enjoying your boating time or out on the beach in Florida, please call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
