Lifting as We Climb: Margaret Murray Washington's Journey to Impact African American Women Through Education
Sojourner Truth. Mary Church Terrell. Ida B. Wells. These are just some of the prominent names associated with the women’s suffrage movement, which commemorated its centennial year in 2020. As we reflect on the movement’s impact, we take a glimpse at perhaps the most influential African American woman associated with both the movement and Macon County, educator, reformer and clubwoman Margaret Murray Washington. Although noted as the third wife of Booker T. Washington, Mrs. Washington merited recognition based on her own achievements of social activism and pioneering endeavors relating to educating black women.

Produced by Lipscomb University, this touching birthday tribute video captures the essence of the life and legacy of Mr. Fred D. Gray from childhood to his legacy of moving the needle forward for racial harmony and justice in America. Speakers include Lipscomb University faculty, National Bar Association President C.K. Hoffler, Equal Justice Initiative Founder Bryan Stevenson, The King Center CEO Dr. Bernice King, and many more. The video concludes with remarks from the honoree himself, sharing a word of thanks.
In a surprise video, faculty, students and alumni of Case Western Reserve University School of Law reflect on Mr. Gray's legacy and influence on their studies and careers.
