Hello Area 12!
Well, the rush of Holy Week and Easter music is behind us. Now it's time to gear up for all the wonderful Spring Rings, concerts and other ringing events in our area. And hey, how about some not in our area?!
Did you know that Area 12 offers a
scholarship to help directors attend National Seminar for the first time? Yes! If you are a director who has never been to National Seminar, we can help! Check out the information on the Area 12 website and
apply today.
I hope you all take the opportunity to get to an event this year - any event, just get there. The learning, the music making, the camaraderie with the community - it's a wonderful experience.

Congratulations! You made it through the Easter rush! I'm sure many of you were busy making beautiful music over the last few weeks. As we continue to spring forward into Spring Break, Spring Rings, Spring Flings, etc, don't forget to
submit to and check out our concert
calendar for events near you! The Bay Area Spring Ring will have its concert at 6 pm on April 14th. Your local community, school and church groups also have spring and summer concerts, so once you've rested up from Spring Ring, go check them out! We all love a good audience!

By the time you read this, The LA Metro Spring Ring will be just a few days away. And guess what? YOU CAN STILL COME!! We will have some spaces available on some of our tables - and you are invited to drop in and ring with us and Kathy Ebling-Shaw for the day!
April 7th - load in time is
8-9 am and we start ringing at
9:00 a.m. Cost is only $25 for a day of ringing!

Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center will be holding their annual
handbell conference on July 22-26 on beautiful Lake Tahoe with Sandy Eithun as the guest conductor. William Kyle is the dean and clinicians are Shosh Meyer, Tessique Houston, Sue Coddington-Allen and Barb Walsh. Northern Nevada has it going on!

Hi there, SoCal-ers -
I hope you've all had a wonderful March and are looking forward to a good April.
As many of you know, I have spent the last month in Ohio. I went there to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday party and instead ended up having to take her to the hospital, where she passed away
two weeks later. I've been working on clearing out her house ever since and it's been a tumultuous emotional roller coaster.
All of that is to say that I know I've received some Spring Ring registrations, but haven't had the chance to read or acknowledge them yet. Please continue being patient with me; I should be home soon and able to deal with those items ASAP.
For those who haven't yet sent in your registrations, please do get them in soon! It's going to be a great event and you'll want a primo position on the floor in order to benefit the most from Kat's direction and instruction.

Fall in Northern California is beautiful and it is a perfect time to attend a festival that gets you
ready for the entire year of ringing. There will be classes on basics, weaving, bell maintenance,
percussion instruments, rehearsal tips, conundrums, and a JAM (reading) session where you
play through new songs and be able to purchase that music. For those ringers wanting a
challenge there will be the Red Zone Bronze choir. Please check out the registration
information in the Northern California part of the Area 12 calendar.

Hello Everyone!
I am pleased to introduce myself to Area 12 as the new Northern California Regional Coordinator.
A little background about me - I began ringing handbells at my church. I directed bells at First United Methodist Church, Lodi for 20+ years, and rang with Riverbells of Sacramento for 20 years and Velocity Handbell Ensemble the last 2. I have been on the Area 12 board the past few years as the Membership Coordinator and enjoy serving as an appointed member of this board. I firmly believe in the strength of ringers as a larger organization and look forward to assisting the folks in the greater Sacramento area with all
things handbell.

Greetings, CenCal!
I just returned from an effective board meeting of Area 12 officers and we had lively discussions about future events for our area. I was able to share feedback from several of our CenCal members which was very encouraging. It sounds like what is most wanted/needed for workshops/classes is opportunities to hone skills with bell changes and multiple bells-in-hand techniques. Anyone planning events might want to include those classes. It's not too late to plan a Guild endorsed or sponsored event this year. Please contact any of your board members if you'd like us to help.

Hi, Southern Nevada!
Handbell choirs are really a team. In the UK, they're even referred to as handbell teams. And like all teams, we have to have a common goal to work toward. For some groups, that goal may be to play a new song in church once a month. For others, it may be to play a piece with a new technique. It's important to have a goal. Without one your group may stay stagnant in one place.
The problem comes when everyone on the team has a different goal! Say the director wants to play more challenging music. Some ringers are on board, others want to stay where they are, and others don't have an opinion. In this situation, nothing is going to be accomplished. So, the entire choir has to come to some sort of consensus on where the group is going now and where they hope to be in a year or even a few months.
A great way to get your group moving can be to have them attend events. They can see what other groups are doing and get ideas for what they want to do. Check out the various events listed in this newsletter to see what's going on that might be a good fit for your group. I'm starting to plan some new events for Southern Nevada, so keep watching for announcements. Setting goals can be exciting! I can't wait to hear what you do next!
