Homecoming Sunday at the Parishes

We welcome everyone back from summer break and invite you to sign up for our various ministries and other ways to get involved.

St BonifaceSeptember 18

We welcome back the Oratory Choir and invite you to an outdoor Coffee Hour after the 11:15am Mass. There will also be a light reception after the 6pm Mass.

AssumptionSeptember 24-25

Light receptions and gathering after both weekend Masses (5pm and 9:30am).

Altar Servers Needed

Assumption and St. Boniface would like to expand their rosters of altar servers. Any child in fourth grade or above who has made his/her First Communion can participate. We know your children have busy schedules so the commitment will be minimal! Participants will be asked to attend one training session in mid-October and then can choose the Masses at which they wish to serve by signing up on the altar server sign-up that will be shared with all participants.

If your child is interested in becoming an altar server or you have questions about the program, please contact Marcela Hahn at [email protected], who will coordinate for St. Boniface, or Coleen McGrath [email protected], who will coordinate for ABVM. Your child can also learn more about the program or sign-up at either parish’s Homecoming Sunday this month. We look forward to hearing from you!

Adult Faith Formation Registration

Starting in October, the Brooklyn Oratory Small Groups will resume weekly meetings! One group will meet in Spanish, and another group will meet on a monthly basis. This year, instead of all groups working with one program, we're offering a variety of resources to explore our Catholic faith: Ponder: Contemplative Bible Study, I Am With You Always, Awakening Faith, Reanima Tu Fe, and Confronting Antisemitism.

Please review details on the small group offerings and register here:

Blessing of Animals

On Sunday October 2, the Oratory Church of the Assumption will host an animal blessing at 1:00pm. You are invited to bring your family, friends, and animal companions for this prayer service.

Safe Environment at the Oratory

We believe that everyone, but especially the very young and the very old, must be safe in our spaces. We encourage all parishioners to be trained in safe practices through VIRTUS. All staff, all volunteers working with children, and at least one parent from each family in our Family Faith and Sacrament programs, must be trained. Trainings are offered throughout the NYC area and can be found on virtus.org. We hope to offer a training at the Oratory in the near future. Stay tuned!

LGBTQ+ Members of the Oratory Parishes

We are planning a small reception for LGBTQ+ parishioners and friends for late September or early October. The aim is to gather, build community, and figure ways we and our parish communities can better support one another in our Catholic faith in the coming year. If interested in attending, contact Ben Kulos at [email protected] for more information.

Spiritual Direction Available

Spiritual Direction is a time of exploring our response to God’s working in our lives. Through the attentive listening of a Director, a Directee reflects upon God’s outpouring of grace, care, constancy and faithfulness in their life. This process occurs through conversation with the Director centering on God’s working through their daily experiences and challenges, as well as through any significant events in their history.

Directees will meet individually once a month for one hour at a mutually convenient time with Brother Damian Novello. The meetings will take place at St. Francis Monastery, 135 Remsen St. Arrangements can also be made for Zoom sessions. There is no fee for this service.

For more information, or to make an appointment for an introductory meeting, please contact Brother Damian, [email protected] or at 718-858-8217 x19.

Mass Intentions

If you would like to request a mass for someone living or deceased, mass intentions are available for the weeks or months ahead. Email [email protected]. The offering is $20. Please pay by using Pushpay or by mailing a check to: 64 Middagh St. Brooklyn, NY 11201.
