|
The Neighbors in Need offering, which we will receive Sunday, October 24, supports the UCC’s ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to fund a wide array of local and national justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects.
One-third of the offering supports the UCC’s Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM).

A Message from Our Pastor and Teacher
|
Sunday, Occtober 24 ~~ “The Gift of Doubt”
Can doubt be a gift in the spiritual life? Absolutely. Doubt can move us forward and open the door to discovery. In the words of Frederick Buechner, “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.” Spirituality flourishes not in certainty, but in the questions.

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
“Very often it's about power, and we use different factors to leverage against individuals, to make them more vulnerable and make them less powerful. Gender is one of those factors, as well as race and racism is one of those factors. So basically, you have misogyny, and then layered on top of that, in the lives of women of color, is racism. Not only are they more likely to experience harassment, but they are less likely to be taken seriously when they complain about harassment. There's a piece in the New York Times this weekend that Kimberly Crenshaw wrote about the R. Kelly conviction and why it took 30 years to actually get a conviction, when there had been complaints about his having sex with a 13-year-old years before. She chalks it up to the fact that all of his accusers were Black women, and she even draws on quotes from people who say, basically, they didn't believe the women because they didn't think that they were credible, they didn't like the way they dressed, they didn't like the way they talked. Those kinds of racist ideas just get layered on top of the misogyny that is at the root of gender violence.”

From the Wider Ministries Team
|
This quarter Wider Ministries has donated $1650 to the Citrus Counseling Services. (Formerly Christian Counseling Services.) The CCS is experiencing financial hardship due to various reasons compounded by the pandemic. As many of you know, RUCC, led by Richard Blakley, was one of five churches that created CCS in 1978. Since then it has grown to be a provider of mental health services to people throughout the Inland Empire, serving around 2000 people per year. They have made substantial cuts to their budget in an attempt to continue the vital services they provide to so many, but they are in need of help.
If you would like to support CCS by making an individual donation you can do so by going online at https://ccs-cares.org/donations/ or alternatively you can send donations by mail to:

Your Church Board at Work
|
As your Member-at-Large I am excited to have this opportunity to keep the congregation updated on the happenings of the Board!
Opening Prayer: Led by Ken Hurley
For the good of the church -
-
Christian Education: Minor updates have been made to the Safe Church Policy. For more information, review the policy on the church website.
-
December Board Meeting: Changed to December 14th due to the Holiday.
-
2022 Covenants due on November 7th: Please spend some time reflecting on the needs of the church as you complete your 2022 Covenant. To support this process, area leaders will be spotlighting the types of support needed in the next two issues of The View.
-
Quarterly Gathering: The next all church gathering will be held on November 7th directly after service. This will be a great opportunity to meet with current board members, ask questions, and seek clarity on the variety of service needed prior to submitting your 2022 Covenants.
-
COVID Protocols: Andrea presented, and the Board approved, a protocol with examples of church activities and COVID restrictions based on the CDC Guidelines. This protocol will be reviewed during the November Quarterly Meeting and posted on the church website.
-
Organ Search Committee: Over the years a substantial amount of money has been donated specifically to support the purchase of a new organ. A committee is being formed to provide insight on the cost of replacing the organ.
If you have any questions, concerns, or inspirational thoughts you would like for me to share with the Board, please do not hesitate to email me: patrickjackie25@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Jackie Patrick
