Dear Friends,

As I am on retreat this week I will be brief. Please keep in the mind the following:

The All Saints Day Festival is planned for 30 October from 6:00 to 8:00PM in place of our Annual Parish Picnic and Fall Festival. This event will be catered, shorter in duration, but just as fun and exciting. See the flyer below and plan on attending! As this is a catered event you must sign up to attend! So, SIGN UP TODAY!!!

I am attending the Annual Priest Retreat at Kanuga Conference Center this week until 7 October. Please pray for our Bishop and all our Diocesan Priests as we gather for the first time in over two years to renew ourselves spiritually, physically and mentally. Please note, due to this retreat, there will be no Daily Mass on 4, 5 and 6 October. I will have Daily Mass on 7 and 8 October.

Some brief, but important news and reminders:

The 8:00AM Hospitality Hour has returned, weather permitting.  This ministry will be held outside, weather permitting, after Mass. The 10:30AM Hospitality
Hour will be hosted by the Knights of Columbus this Sunday.

This Sunday we have a Parish Blood Drive. You can sign up for an appointment HERE or walk-in after Mass. Walk-ins are welcome as sometimes people miss their appointment or are unable to donate blood for various reasons.

The Boy Scouts Annual Pumpkin Patch is ongoing until the end of October. Please be sure to support our Parish Troop and buy your pumpkins from the patch in front of the Church. Thank you!

The Women's Club will have a bassinet and poster in the Narthex of the church to collect baby items for Birthright. Birthright of Columbia is a non-profit organization that provides caring, non-judgmental support to girls and women facing an unplanned pregnancy. New, or gently used, baby items are needed including baby clothes, diapers, wipes, blankets, bibs, bottles and similar items, but not items such as furniture or car seats. Thank you for your generosity!

The Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids Campaign collection bin has been moved to the Volkommer Bell Tower. So far 102 coats have been collected to help needy students. Additional areas to leave donated coats are located in the entrance way of the Family Life Center and in the hallway outside of St. Andrew Hall. Please be generous with either new or lightly used coats for children/teens. Thank you!

Friendly Voices, our parish phone tree and neighborhood ministry, will be on the plaza in front of the church 23 and 24 October to share information about this important parish initiative. Please see their flyer HERE and plan on stopping at their table to learn more and sign-up to be a part of this ministry.

We are having a 40 Hour Devotion in the Adoration Chapel the weekend of 28-30 October. To sign-up and for more information see: ADORATION

We are having a Christ the King Procession, celebratory meal and veneration of Holy Relics on 31 October. Sign up for the meal is required. Veneration is free to the public. Sign-up HERE to eat!

NOTES OF IMPORTANCE FROM THE DIOCESE

Fall into Giving (An invitation from Bishop Guglielmone)

Since I first joined the Diocese of Charleston in 2009, I have been awestruck by the tremendous stories of impact from the offices of Catholic Charities of South Carolina across the state. As president of its board, I'd like to share these stories with you, because with your support, Catholic Charities served close to 60,000 individuals in 2020. On Saturday, 09 October, our outreach organization will host a virtual fundraising event and online auction. You'll be able to meet our staff, hear local impacts, and see your local office setup. Experience all the ways your Catholic Charities office is truly serving Christ through serving those in need by registering for this free event.

Join us at 7 p.m. on Saturday, 09 October, via Zoom. Registration is free: www.charitiessc.org/fallintogiving

The online auction is currently live at https://charitiessc.maestroweb.com. Click here to view Catholic Charities’ 2020-2021 Annual Impact Report.

Please make every effort to join us in celebration of all Catholic Charities' work across our state.

Mass for Respect Life Month

Please join us for Mass Oct. 13 at 11:30 a.m. where Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone will celebrate Respect Life Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Parish Respect Life Coordinators will be commissioned at the Mass. You are welcome to attend in person at the Chapel of the Holy Family, 901 Orange Grove Road in Charleston, or join us virtually on our diocesan Facebook and YouTube channels.

St. Joseph Family Care Program

  • Spanish-language legal connections on immigration
  • Virtual bilingual meetings with certified financial planners and debt repayment plan specialists
  • Consultations with certified nutritionists and food boxes delivered to the home
  • No government identification required to enroll
Attached to this message are flyers, brochures, sign up forms and a promotional video, all in English and Spanish. You can also direct people to sign up online at stjosephcare.org.

With President Biden's mask mandates in place, Bishop Guglielmone has issued a letter for those who may be seeking a religious exemption. You may download and print the letter for this purpose HERE. There is no need to request a letter from a priest.

Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly
to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
