You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. ~Mathew 16

From The Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Friends;

A few days more and September will begin! Be sure to check the bulletin for information regarding registration information for school, Faith Formation and Confirmation programs.

We are always in need of more volunteers for Faith formation, coffee hour volunteers and parish and finance council members. Skills and talents of all sorts are needed. Give the office a call!

Next Tuesday, August 29th, at 9:30am, there will be a Memorial Mass for deceased Basilian Fathers in the All Souls Chapel at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. There have been many fine Basilians who served in Rochester and our own parish community, who are buried at Holy Sepulchre. Anyone is welcome to attend.

May God bless you this week.

DIOCESE OF ROCHESTER PERMANENT DIACONATE:

The deacon is a man of faith, who is called from the community that already recognizes his dedication to service. He makes a lifetime commitment to serving the People of God by proclaiming the Word, assisting and presiding at liturgies, and ministering in the areas of charity and social justice. A deacon gives witness to his availability to the community by addressing present and emerging needs of the Church. The Diocese is inviting interested men of strong and active faith, who can demonstrate a record of service in the communities in which they live, work and worship, who may wish to explore a possible call to ordained ministry as a permanent deacon, to first speak with their pastor for an initial conversation. They may also contact Deacon Edward Giblin, Director of the Office of the Permanent Diaconate, at edward.giblin@dor.org, for additional information. A potential candidate must be at least 35 years of age and no older than 62 years of age at the time of ordination after a five (5) year period of formation. He must be in good health, emotionally mature, have stable relationships and must have the wholehearted support of his wife (if married) and family to enter the phase of inquiry.  Because the parish is the primary experience of Church for most inquirers, the parish community is asked as well to invite from among its members men who exhibit strong faith and a spirit of service and encourage them to consider a possible vocation to the permanent diaconate.

Eucharistic Revival

The National Eucharistic Revival

Is a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery here in the United States by helping us renew our worship of

Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

Our world is hurting. We all need healing, yet many of us are separated from the very source of our strength. Jesus Christ invites us to return to the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist.

Here are some opportunities that you can participate in throughout our Diocese:

The Saint Kateri Parish Eucharistic Revival Team is planning many

events which you will be able to participate in. Check our bulletin in the coming weeks to see what is planned

  • Immaculate Conception 113 N. Geneva Street Ithaca, NY: The Eucharistic Revival Committee and Knights of Columbus Ithaca Council are presenting The Eucharistic Miracles of the World exhibit. This beautiful exhibit was developed by Blessed Carlos Acutis, a very devout young Italian boy who was steadfast in his belief in the Real Presence Christ in the Eucharist and died from Leukemia at the age of fifteen. The exhibit will be open Sept. 16-17, Oct. 21-22 and Nov. 18-19. In addition to the exhibit, the newly renovated church will be open for viewing.

  • Former St. James Convent Chapel-130 Brett Road Rochester, NY —Peace of Christ Parish is collecting the names of those interested in participating in Perpetual Adoration. Please call (585) 288-5000 if you are interested in signing up.

Come and spend an hour in peaceful prayer

Nocturnal Adoration at Christ the King, on the 4th Saturday of the Month 8:00PM

Nocturnal Adoration offers a unique opportunity to be in the presence of Jesus at a time when there are no distractions; to meditate on His passion, death and resurrection; to pray with Him to our Father; and to receive the strength of the Holy Spirit to continue His mission of love and compassion. Members pray for the intentions of society members worldwide, for world peace, for pro-life issues, vocations, victims of war and natural disasters, and our departed brothers

Seven Sorrows Rosary at Christ the King. Tuesdays 5:00PM

Seven decades of seven Hail Mary's while reflecting on our Blessed Mother's heart and love for God and the tears she shed. This devotion originated in the thirteenth century and has been prayed weekly at Christ the King since 2019. This chaplet takes about a half hour praying with men and women (children are welcomed) to ask for Mary's intercession of her Son for our personal and communal needs. Come and pray for the world we live in and remember all the Lord has done for us.

Lectio Devina at Christ the King, Saturday August 26th, September 30th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM

Historically, Lectio Divina has been a "community practice" performed by monks in monasteries. Although it can be taken up individually, its community element should not be forgotten.

Lectio Divina has been likened to "feasting on the Word": first, the taking of a bite (lectio); then chewing on it (meditatio); savoring its essence (oratio) and, finally, "digesting" it and making it a part of the body (contemplatio). In Christian teachings, this form of meditative prayer leads to an increased knowledge of Christ.

2023-24 Scheduling of SKT Meeting Space

The SKT calendar is open for reserving space at Christ the King and St. Cecilia’s facilities. Every effort will be made to honor your requests. A few things to note:

* Church/School sponsored programs/groups are given first priority.

* If there is a scheduling conflict, your group may be scheduled for the next available date or a different room other than the one that is requested.

* Rooms are reserved according to size of the group and nature of the event. In the case of conflicting requests, these factors will be critical to deciding which group/event gets the requested facility. Any other request for the same facility will be accommodated at another Parish location.

Please contact Annette Syracusa by email to schedule your meetings or if you have any questions:

 annette.syracusa@dor.org

Sharing Our Stories

(formerly known as Letters to God)

Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.

-- Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection

Taking time to write together or to journal individually can offer us an encounter with grace. During this weekend, we will explore writing as a spiritual practice—a way to tell our stories, an opportunity to listen and an experience of blessing our histories. The exercises will be simple, gentle, and inspirational. Each day includes prayer and presentation, writing exercises and sharing and closing with prayer.

Maureen M. Martin, M.Div, LCPC, is a spiritual director and writer. Previously she worked as a counselor, hospice chaplain, and pediatrician. After many life transitions, Maureen has woven together her losses and shares her insights of hope, even in crisis, through writing, public speaking, and spiritual direction. She lives in Brockport.

Walking in Their Footsteps: The Journey to Sainthood

More information on the subject of the month will be featured as each session approaches.
