Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Every October, we celebrate Respect Life Month. We consider more deeply why every human life is valuable and reflect on how to build a culture that protects life from conception to natural death. Visit https://www.respectlife.org.

Heavenly Father, thank you

for the precious gift of life.

Help us to cherish and protect

this gift, even in the midst of fear,

pain, and suffering.

Give us love for all people,

especially the most vulnerable,

and help us bear witness to the

truth that every life is worth living.

Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. Remember that your compassion, O LORD, and your love are from of old. The sins of my youth and my frailties remember not; in your kindness remember me, because of your goodness, O Lord. Good and upright is the LORD; thus he shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, and teaches the humble his way."

~Psalm 25

From The Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

The month of October begins! Be sure to check the inside of the bulletin for details regarding school and Faith Formation events.

At 10am Saturday, October 7th, we will host a blessing for pets on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. This will be held at the rear parking lot of Christ the King, or in the gym if it rains. All pets and people are welcome!

For popular saints like Saint Francis, October is one of my favorite months which then leads up to the date of November 1st, the Feast of All Saints. On November 2nd, the Commemoration of All Souls, we remember all people who have died.

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to concelebrate Mass at the All Souls Chapel located at Holy Sepulchre cemetery (off of Lake Avenue on the East side) with Fr. Mannara, Chaplain of Saint John Fisher University. We prayed for all the Basilian Fathers who have served the Rochester Diocese in years past. There are about 45 Basilian Priests buried at Holy Sepulchre surrounding the chapel along with many other diocesan priests. There is also a special section for religious sisters. Deceased Diocesan Bishops are interred in the tower mausoleum building adjoining the chapel. While the All Souls chapel is only opened for special occasions, if you ever have the opportunity to tour the grounds on the East side, it is a moving experience.

There is a monthly Mass offered by Fr. Peter Bayer to pray for all people who are buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, and anyone is welcome to attend.

Thanks to the authorship of Fr. Peter Bayer, there is a new publication about the history of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. I have a few copies available of this fascinating hardcover book in the book stand at the rear of Christ the King Church. These are for loan only. Please return after reading for other parishioners to enjoy.

May God bless you!
