The Library is making some changes to the summer reading program, starting with its name! Last summer we provided a wonderful opportunity for our participants to read for a cause, and since we’re doing again, we have changed our program name to Summer Reading for a Cause! This summer, we’ll be reading for Foundation for a College Education (FCE), and we’re challenging our community to read/listen to 20,000 books, and we’ll donate $2,500 to FCE. This local organization provides mentoring and tutoring for first-generation, low-income students of color, in order to increase their attendance and graduation from a four-year college or university. We know our community supports learning and exploring, and we’re delighted to partner with this wonderful organization this summer!
Our theme is “Share Your Story!” and we have an exciting lineup of events and activities for all ages! Read How it Works, watch our tutorial videos for Beanstack help, and contact us with any questions.
Please note the important changes to our program this summer:
- The reading program will run from June 1 to August 1 (but events will happen all summer long!)
- We have a 3-tiered program on the Beanstack website or app for kids (0-12), teens (13-17) and adults (18+). Each audience has a set goal of books to read to complete each tier. Teens can also attend library events to complete their tiers.
- Participants will receive prizes for completing the first tier and earn raffle tickets if they complete additional tiers. Raffle tickets will go towards a grand prize drawing for one kid, teen and adult!
- Prizes can be picked up at Children’s, Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries from July 1 to August 31. Three grand prizes winners will be announced in mid-August!
We’re especially grateful to our Friends of the Palo Alto Library for providing the funding for our program and donation to FCE, and all other sponsors and partners whose gifts enhance our participants’ experiences. Sharing our stories helps our community thrive!
