Zero Moment:

Microsoft: Too Big to Care

Even the giants can stumble. Microsoft recently made a change that broke core functionality in Outlook calendar invites. For years, you could add a professional signature, even with an image like a logo or headshot, and the invite would save without issue. After their “update,” any invite with an image fails to save. The only way around it is to strip your brand from your signature, or manually delete the image every single time. That is not a solution. That is sloppy UAT and a failure to protect customers from unnecessary friction.

When I raised it, Microsoft support offered me three “options”:

  1. Remove signatures as a default from email so they do not flow into invites.
  2. Remove images from the signature altogether.
  3. Continue deleting the images manually every time I schedule a meeting.

None of these preserve the professional experience customers expect. And none of these should be acceptable when the problem was created by Microsoft in the first place!

What struck me most was what the agent said to me directly: “My options as your ambassador are limited, and as much as I would want to, I don’t have the capability to have this fixed.” That sentence says everything about the culture. The agent cared, but was boxed in by scripts, stripped of escalation paths, and left to repeat “workarounds” that do not actually work. That is not support, it is resignation.

Here is the lesson for every company:

  • Test before you break. Core functions should never be compromised by poorly run changes.
  • Prioritize what matters. If it disrupts customer workflows, it is not “low priority.”
  • Empower your agents. Scripts do not solve problems, people do. If your frontline cannot escalate, you have trapped them and your customers in frustration.

I am not riding on a corporate license, I am a paying business customer. That means they should care about my experience and my satisfaction. Instead, the silence is deafening. And the sad truth is, when a company is making big money, too often the big misses do not seem to matter. Whether you are Microsoft or a small business, care is never optional.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, have similar situations? What thoughts do you have on how companies do better and prioritize the customer experience? Do write to me and let's brainstorm together on ways we can improve them!

“Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them." -Roy T. Bennett

TIP of the Week

Keep Promises, Big and Small

Customers notice when companies keep promises.

We notice when we keep promises to ourselves.

Both are foundations of trust.

Start small, follow through, and let consistency do the rest.

The Power of 21 Days

On August 10, I made a decision. The entrepreneurial ride has been real, but it has also wrecked havoc with my routines. My mornings slipped, walks and outdoor time often got skipped, and even meal choices took a hit while constantly on the go. Then came a wake-up call: surgery was scheduled to repair an injury from a fall. I had a choice, go with the quick fix of surgery or do the hard work of letting my body heal itself.

I have always believed the body wants to heal if we give it the right conditions. So I sat down with a notepad and wrote out the essentials: what time I would wake up each day, which supplements to take, when I would commit to a full hour of movement, the choice to eat super clean, and the nighttime wind down routine, including my three-step beauty ritual and lights out at a consistent time. To make it stick, I put it on my desk calendar pad for August, giving myself the daily space to check things off before bed.

When you write down a goal, it hits differently. That little box waiting for a check mark is powerful, it delivers a dopamine hit and pushes you to do the work. Over the 21 days, did I hit 100 percent? Honestly, no. But I came close, about 95 percent. A few mornings I did not wake up at 6, and some nights stretched past 10. Still, the results were undeniable. My digestion reset, the consistent walks and protein smoothies curbed my appetite, my body felt cleansed, and I dropped more than 10 pounds. Not bad for three weeks.

I laughed when I saw an old coach post that the 21 day habit idea had been debunked. Maybe it has. But I believe in the power of getting started, and in the discipline of staying consistent, no matter how many days it takes. For me, these 21 days were a reset. Proof that small, daily choices add up, and that healing is possible when you make it intentional. If you want to change your life, start with one choice today and keep choosing it again tomorrow.

What's something you're still working on, a life hack, a new habit, something that you may need help making stick? Tell me about it! Let's share and learn together.
