Hero Moment: It was Never a Dress

Earlier this month, someone shared an image that stopped me mid-scroll. It showed a simple silhouette that looked like a woman wearing a dress. In the next frame, the dress became something else entirely. A cape. A superhero standing underneath.

The caption read: "It was never a dress."

It struck me immediately because the message behind it is something many women recognize instinctively. What the world sees on the surface rarely reflects the strength, resilience, and quiet endurance that often sit beneath it. And it reminded me of a chapter I chose to include in my book, Zero to Hero, called “The Womanhood Experience.”

Leadership stories are often told in a way that smooths out the complexity behind them. We celebrate success, milestones, and titles, but we do not always acknowledge the full path that led there. For many women, that path includes navigating expectations that are both visible and invisible at the same time. The double standards. The pink penalty. The balancing act between professional ambition and personal responsibility. The quiet resilience required to move forward even when the playing field is not always level.

In Chapter 14 of Zero to Hero, I wrote about this reality openly, because transformation stories are incomplete if they ignore the lived experiences that shape how leaders grow. I described what many women know but rarely articulate in leadership conversations: the experience of carrying both strength and vulnerability at the same time. The experience of showing up as a leader while also carrying responsibilities and emotional labor that often go unseen.

Women lead teams, build organizations, and create impact every day while navigating pressures that do not always make it into boardroom conversations. Many raise families while advancing careers. Many serve as quiet anchors within their communities and workplaces. Many push forward through moments of doubt or isolation, not because it is easy, but because they believe in the work they are doing and the people they are serving.

And yet, despite all of that, women continue to show up. They continue to lead with courage, compassion, and conviction. They create progress not only for themselves, but for those who will follow behind them.

That is why the image resonated so deeply with me.

Because the world may see the dress.

But beneath it is the cape.

As we move through March and recognize International Women’s Day, it is worth reflecting on the quiet hero moments happening around us every day. The moments where women step forward, support others, challenge assumptions, and move things forward with strength and grace.

These are not always the loud moments that make headlines. More often, they are the small decisions, the steady persistence, and the unwavering belief that progress is possible.

Those moments matter. They shape culture. They build trust. And over time, they transform organizations and communities.

Sometimes hero moments are dramatic and visible. But many of them happen quietly, carried by people who simply choose to keep moving forward.

Just like the cape that was there all along.

Have an immediate reflection on this? Have a particular woman that's been your own hero? Tell me about it!

Zero to Hero: The Human Experience in Leadership & Business Transformation

My book has officially launched!

On March 4th, I announced the release of my new book. I’m grateful for the early momentum. It has already been designated a Top New Release on Amazon in Business Leadership Training, and the first reader reviews are beginning to come in.

In Zero to Hero, I explore the real human journey behind leadership and transformation. It shows how leaders can recognize “zero moments” and intentionally turn them into hero moments that elevate teams, organizations, and customer experiences.

Through stories, lessons from the field, and practical strategies, the book focuses on what truly drives transformation: people, trust, courage, and the willingness to lead with authenticity.

9 Trends Shaping Work in 2026 and Beyond

A recent Harvard Business Review article exploring trends shaping work in 2026 offered an interesting reality check for leaders. While expectations around AI-driven productivity remain sky-high, the data suggests that only a small fraction of AI investments are delivering truly transformational results so far.

What’s emerging instead is something researchers are calling culture dissonance, the growing gap between how quickly organizations are adopting technology and how slowly workplace culture and leadership practices are evolving to support it.

Many organizations are rushing to implement tools before they have fully considered how people will actually work with them. Employees are finding themselves spending more time fixing low-quality AI outputs, navigating unclear processes, and adapting to constant change.

The lesson is not that technology is the problem. The lesson is that transformation is never purely technical.

The organizations that will thrive are the ones that remember that culture, not technology, is the true operating system of a company. When leaders align tools, processes, and human experience thoughtfully, transformation becomes sustainable rather than chaotic.

As we move deeper into this AI-driven era, the challenge for leaders will not simply be adopting new tools. It will be ensuring that culture evolves alongside them.

Here's the full article. What trends are you seeing with AI adoption and culture shift? And have they changed in the last year or two? Any predictions you'd like to share? Tell me about it!

Purple Pom Poms and Pride

Last week, I found myself at NYU Langone in Mineola with my dad. As we were leaving, something caught my attention near the entrance.

There were dozens of women gathered outside, all dressed in green scrubs and purple jackets, lined up with signs and pom poms, ready to welcome the day. At first glance, it looked like a celebration. Balloons were still up, and there was a noticeable buzz in the air. But then I realized this wasn’t a celebration. It was preparation.

They were facing the parking lot, practicing a chant they had clearly created themselves. The energy was contagious. It wasn’t forced or performative. It was genuine.

They were getting ready to welcome the Magnet appraisers!

I slowed down just enough to take it in. The pride in that moment was unmistakable. Not the kind that seeks recognition, but the kind that comes from ownership. From believing in the work you do and wanting to show up for it fully.

And then something even more telling happened.

One of the leaders noticed us trying to make our way out and immediately stepped in, asking if she could help. She offered to have my dad wait comfortably with them while I got the car, so he wouldn’t have to walk.

In the middle of all that energy, preparation, and anticipation, she still saw us.

That’s what stayed with me.

Because culture isn’t what we say in presentations or write in mission statements. It’s what shows up in moments like these. Moments of truth, where care is natural. Where pride is visible. Where people are all in, not because they have to be, but because they want to be.

It was a small moment. But it was a powerful one.

A true hero moment.

And a reminder that when pride and purpose come together, you can feel it.

That's what I talk about in my book, moments when we turn friction into fuel, when we see the whole person and not what's convenient. Moments when we choose to elevate each other. Now, your turn to share some hero moments- got any recent ones that surprised you? Write to me!
