A new home décor and interior design store has opened its doors in Williston. Elite Designz is located at 34 24th St W, in the former Curves building. April Thiel and Mary Berg are co-owners of the business venture. The store has a variety of design trends to choose from including industrial, modern, farmhouse, traditional, transitional and much more! Elite Designz is celebrating its grand opening this weekend.

Their store was off to the proverbial flying start, and then they got a phone call that changed everything all at once. Kim Wenko and Deanette Piesik opened the Mode clothing store last year in November in the Renaissance on Main building. It was the first boutique to open in the Renaissance, and it sold designer fashions at closeout prices for women of all ages. It was the 11th store in the Mama Mia franchise to open nationwide, and seemed to be among the few brick-and-mortar retail outlets that were on the rise. But in August, less than a year after opening, the two received a phone call from their parent corporation, informing them that Mama Mia was closing its Mode stores. Read More

Pamela Starr, a Google trainer, will lead the free seminar on Oct.18 at 9 a.m. at the Grand Williston Hotel.
The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Development Center and Williston Economic Development are helping small businesses grow their presence online with a workshop featuring Google's Pamela Starr, an accomplished leader and trainer.
Starr will share how businesses can easily add or update their info on Google Search and Maps, optimize and promote their website, measure their online success, and more. Williams County's Evenson earns 2017 Excellence in County Government Award

The North Dakota Association of Counties has announced the winners of its 2017 Excellence in County Government awards. The awards will be presented during the NDACo's annual conference Oct. 8-11 in Bismarck. Kari Evenson, Williams County Treasurer / Recorder, will collect the prestigious 2017 County Official Award. Mandan named 2017 City of the Year

The Starion Sports Complex celebrated its Grand Opening Sept. 29 in Mandan.
Mandan is the 2017 "City of the Year," receiving the honor at the North Dakota League of Cities' annual conference in Fargo last week. The award, accepted by Commissioner Dennis Rohr on behalf of the city, was established in 1984 to recognize North Dakota cities for the quality, number and progressiveness of their activities. Among the city's accomplishments are the opening of a new middle school in 2008, a new elementary school in 2014 and a universal playground in 2015. Mandan, in combination with private and public partnerships, has invested $36 million in recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, including a sports complex for use by local youth and a wellness center in partnership with the YMCA. It was a friendly rivalry, but aimed at a serious problem. North Dakota's new vapor pressure standards have multiple companies presenting ideas to solve problems it has been causing the industry, and two of them were vying for attention Wednesday at the Bakken Oil Product and Service Show in booths directly across from one another. One of them was a new inventor on the scene, Patrick Young of Patloc Safety Systems in Watford City. Last year he unveiled his Patloc Safety System at the oilfield event and this year he unveiled  the Legendary Fire Tube. Read More

Odyssey Theatres to build Multi-plex in Downtown Dickinson

Dickinson's City Commission approved Odyssey Theatres' bid to purchase a city parking lot to the south of city hall and turn it into a seven-to-eight screen movie theater by a vote of 4-1 at Monday evening's meeting. The $100,000 sale of the parking lot concludes months of public debate and years of planning over selling the property and turning it into an entertainment space. Supporters of the sale argue that turning the lot into a movie theater will help revitalize downtown, while detractors are frustrated by loss of parking spaces. Read More
Team Up to Clean Up Oct. 14 in Williston

The 2017 Fall Clean Up will reward youth who participate on Saturday, Oct. 14. Students in grades K-4 can pick up a free t-shirt (while supplies last) and register their classroom for a chance to win a free pizza party with Williston Mayor Howard Klug. The campaign headquarters will once again be stationed at  Davidson Park from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Volunteers can pick up free cleanup supplies, enjoy a free meal provided by Halliburton and drop off their used tires and electronics in the receptacles.

Voters will go to the polls at the Williston Area Recreation Center to decide vote on the continuation of one cent sales tax for infrastructure and economic development. The sales tax has existed since 1991.
