CAMPBELL RIVER: Bob Bray is pleased to provide descriptions of a progressive worldview and a common sense worldview to demonstrate their opposite nature.

Two Opposite Worldviews

I wanted to show just how opposite a progressive worldview has become in comparison to a common sense worldview. I found a statement on the BCTF website to represent the progressive worldview and on the Blueprint for Canada website I found a policy statement to represent the common sense worldview.

Blueprint for Canada

The Blueprint for Canada was freshly written by Peter Wallace, a trustee candidate running in Ontario.

One of the its policies speaks to a current issue:

We reject the promotion of “gender ideology” in schools. We have seen the catastrophic harm inflicted on children who were affirmed and underwent medical transition only to deeply regret it years later. Adults, especially those who work with kids, have a duty to safeguard children from making potentially devastating decisions at a time when their brain has not fully developed. Blindly affirming the cross-sex gender identity of a child is often the first step in the pathway toward medical transition and lifelong consequences for their health. We believe this is a psychotherapeutic intervention which no teacher is qualified to do and should never be done without express parental consent and evaluation by unbiased medical professionals.

Policy #16 of 55 speaks to a common sense worldview:

We will remember that Canadians are fortunate to live in one of the world’s most peaceful, diverse, and multicultural societies. We will support policies which put an end to “critical social justice” political bias and activism in our public education. We categorically reject those ideological narratives which seek only to undermine the social fabric of Canadian society.

The Blueprint for Canada policies can be seen here.

BCTF

On the website of the BC Teachers' Federation, under the Advocacy and Issues tab and under the Social Justice heading, is a statement which speaks to a progressive worldview:

  Social Justice

We accept and act on our broad responsibility to be involved in the social development of the communities, province and world in which we live. We are responsible for being and creating active citizens who work for the betterment of humanity.

The Advocacy and Issues page of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation website can be viewed here.

Comparing these Progressive and

Common Sense worldviews

I am reminded of John O'Sullivan's First Law, All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing.

Comparing worldviews is a huge subject. I will only comment briefly.

Why is there so much political activism in the classroom?

It comes from the teaching profession's social justice statement "creating active citizens".

What is a better feel-good goal than "saving the world"?

How about "betterment of humanity".

Is it true, as stated in the Blueprint, that an ideological narrative or worldview can "undermine the social fabric"?

If the social fabric is maintained in each generation by adults who know how fortunate they are and if new recruits to the next generation, in their formative years, are mentored by those who are dismissive of their heritage, then yes, a worldview can undermine the social fabric.

Good to see the Peoples Council Surrey and their candidate for mayor Amrit Birring stating publicly these two policies:

  • Fight against SOGI 123 and CRT indoctrination
  • Children belong to parents, not government
