Virtual Spiritual Care and Education Seminars

December 13th & 14th, 2023

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to announce that this December the Academy will host two incredible virtual Spiritual Care and Education Seminars. I hope you will join us for these thought provoking sessions.

Please see below for additional details and the link to register on Zoom.

Wednesday, December 13th

10:00am - 12:30pm PT

Essentials of Spiritual Care: Understanding Thurgood Marshall, the Desegregation of Schools, Racism in America, and the Struggle for Civil Rights through the book, Devil in the Grove by Gilbert King

  • Please join us in welcoming Gilbert King, the award winning author of Devil in the Grove, who will share reflections on his writings. Devil in the Grove dives into the history of Thurgood Marshall's defense of the Groveland Boys, four young Black men in Lake County, FL, who were accused in 1949 of raping a white woman.

  • We also welcome Valerie Richards, MSW, who will illuminate and apply her knowledge of civil rights and its relevance to clinical spiritual care today. Breakout groups and the sharing of ideas will be included.

  • Participation in the seminar will be enhanced by reading the book

Thursday, December 14th

10:00am - 11:30am PT

Spiritual Care During Current Times of War, Terror, and Crisis

  • In this session, Dr. Duane Bidwell, Dr. Victor Gabriel, Rabbi Rochelle Robins, Gagandeep Kaur, and Munir Shaikh will explore interreligious, cross-cultural, and intergenerational approaches to cross-perspective care of communities in distress. The panelists will explore the role of the chaplain as well as that of the caring community, and the necessities/complexities in maintaining both.

These virtual seminars are free and open to the public. If you would like to join us on Zoom, please register here.

Hope to see you there,

Rabbi Rochelle Robins

Vice President & Dean of the Chaplaincy School
