Not In Our School
Workshops in April

We are excited to present not one, but two free webinars for educators this month as part of our Not In Our School initiative.

We hope you will forward this email to teachers, school administrators and school board members in your community encouraging them to participate!
WORKSHOP: PREVENTING AND ADDRESSING BULLYING, RACISM AND INTOLERANCE
Date + Time: Wednesday, April 13, at 4 PT / 7 ET

Students of all backgrounds thrive in a warm and “identity safe” environment where they feel that who they are and what they think is valued. School transformation requires teamwork. Involving students in the process of change can shift the school culture to one where offending or hurting someone else, either in person or online, is not seen as cool and is not tolerated.

This presentation from Not In Our Town is for educators to help support children at school by teaching them about bullying, how to stand up to it, and how to get help. Participants will also learn how to support the child who is bullying others, and discovers ways they can help stop and break behavior patterns that lead to further harm.

This free presentation will offer:

  • Definitions of bullying and bias-based bullying
  • Concrete ways to support a child if they have been bullied or are bullying others
  • Tools for working with students and parents to foster belonging and inclusion across differences of race, gender, and ethnicity.
  • How to start a Not In Our School campaign with ways to involve the larger community to prevent bullying, racism, and other forms of bias in your school and community

Presenter: Becki Cohn-Vargas

WORKSHOP: ADDRESSING MICROAGGRESSIONS AND IMPLICIT BIAS
Date + Time: Tuesday, April 26, at 4 PT / 7 ET

The Not In Our School Learning Community Workshop Series is a new initiative that launches with a kick-off free workshop in April, with more workshops planned for the fall.

This free Interactive Learning Community event for educators will provide methods to address microaggressions and implicit bias. As part of an educator network dedicated to building inclusive school communities, participants will have the opportunity to develop strategies with a supportive cohort of teachers. The Learning Community will focus on microaggressions and implicit bias in the classroom, collaborate on ideas to empower students, and share methods and best practices. This event will be limited to 50 participants and run for approximately 1 hour in length.

Presenters: Mary Sok and Jamie Lott-Jones

Credentials: Educators at Watchung Hills Regional High School; Professors at Kean University; Executive Board Members for the Diversity Council for Global Education and Citizenship
